Kura Hulanda to be Managed by Prestige Resorts
MINNEAPOLIS, Prestige Resorts & Destinations will manage the world famous Hotel Kura Hulanda, a unique 67-room luxury resort in a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Willemstad, Curacao beginning March 1. "This exquisite boutique property will be the second management contract Prestige has secured within the last six months under our newly formed luxury resort management division," said Blair McKeever, Prestige Resorts & Destinations'...
Prestige's Luxury Resort Management Senior Vice President Jasen Mark echoed these same sentiments and said, "In addition to leveraging our marketing strength, Prestige intends to increase Kura Hulanda's occupancy, productivity and revenues by integrating our effective management systems, training and productivity measurement tools."
Hotel Kura Hulanda (means "Dutch Courtyard" in Papiamentu, the native language of Curacao) is a self-contained village covering six acres in an eight-block district of historic Curacao. Developers Jacob Gelt Dekker and John Padget have restored this superb collection of 18th and 19th century Dutch Colonial Caribbean buildings through the Jade Foundation they established. There are 65 buildings, cobblestone pedestrian walkways, retail shops, restaurants and many beautiful courtyards throughout Kura Hulanda. Guests will also find a modern business center and a state of the art conference center designed for small and medium size executive meetings and retreats together with a fitness center/spa and a new culinary institute.
This unique cultural destination includes Museum Kura Hulanda (a world-acclaimed anthropological museum), the Jacob Gelt Dekker Institute (an organization for advanced cultural studies) and a permanent Anne Frank exhibition.
The hand-carved mahogany and teak furnishings, antiques, artwork and luxurious fabrics from India at the resort make it unique. Each room, for example, has one-of-a-kind decorative wall accents hand painted by local artists. The Indian Bridal suite contains handcrafted furniture made of hammered sterling silver.
The Astrolab Observatory Restaurant, named for the two exhibits of sextants and astrolabs adjacent to the al fresco dining area, showcases the world class gourmet talents of the executive chef. The Jaipur Indian Restaurant serves Tandoori-style Indian cuisine while the Museum Kura Hulanda Restaurant offers local and Dutch cuisine in an outdoor setting. Jacob's Bar & Terrace is open late for drinks and tapas. Each dining establishment will benefit from the required apprenticeships of the new culinary institute graduates.
Other unique highlights of this complex include artifacts from New York City's famous Cotton Club and two swimming pools-the Bolivar Pool and Eco Pond Pool, which is a grotto surrounded by natural rock formations fed by a waterfall.
