Hotels Magazine Honors 2003 Hoteliers of the World - Managing Director of Switzerland's Victoria-Jungfrau Hotel Awarded
INTERLAKEN, Switzerland -- HOTELS, the magazine of the worldwide hotel industry, has named Emanuel Berger its 2003 Independent Hotelier of the World. Mr. Berger, the long-time managing director of the 138-year-old Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa in Interlaken, Switzerland, will be honored at a reception hosted by the magazine at the New York Palace Hotel on Monday, November 10, 2003; he is featured in the November 2003 issue of HOTELS.
Some of the world's finest hoteliers are being trained in Switzerland and Mr. Berger represents the first Swiss property to receive this honor in the magazine's 23-year history. Sixty-thousand readers of the magazine were invited to vote for the Independent Hotelier of the World from a proposed group of prominent industry figures.
"Emanuel has won adulation from hoteliers around the world because he's maintained his classic style of Swiss hotel keeping throughout his successful run," says the magazine's editor in chief, Jeffrey Weinstein. "The grand dame Victoria-Jungfrau has flourished because of his dedication and professionalism. He's an asset to Interlaken and for tourism in Switzerland at large."
Emanuel Berger brings international experience to his 33-year tenure as managing director and delegate to its board of the Victoria-Jungfrau. He has worked for hotels in North Africa, Europe, and the U.S., including the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York.
Serving as chairman of the Swiss Deluxe Hotels association for six years, Mr. Berger is also a board member of the Conseil de Fondation at the Ecole Hôtelière in Lausanne; and a member of the governing board of the Palace Hotel in Luzern, the Widder Hotel in Zurich, and the Thermalbader & Grand Hotels in Bad Ragaz. He holds a diploma from the Ecole Hôtelière Lausanne and business degree from the Swiss Hotel Association. He also attended (on scholarship) the school of Hotel Administration at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
