SANTA BARBARA, CA – InfoGenesis, a leading provider of hospitality information technology, today announced installation of Revelation point-of-sale (POS) solution at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York. The project, which replaced an existing POS solution, includes installation of IBM SurePOS 500 touch screen terminals and Microsoft Windows and SQL Server software to manage all food and beverage transactions throughout the property.
Stony Brook University Hospital management decided to replace their previous POS system with a solution that could not only streamline transactions, but also provide a more accurate allocation of revenue and expenses. Additionally, Stony Brook wanted to use technology to speed service, make practical decisions about business performance and product management, and improve customer satisfaction.
“To move forward with an InfoGenesis solution was an easy decision,” said Paul Hubbard, Associate Director of Food Service for Stony Brook University Hospital. “We explored all of our options and truly believe that this is the best choice. Our focus on providing excellent service requires a system that is not only user-friendly, but also gives us the hardware and software we need to make global, proactive improvements to our business.”
Revelation is installed by InfoGenesis as an application service provider (ASP) solution that exploits powerful Microsoft .NET technology. It is installed in six profit centers throughout the hospital including a deli, kiosk, restaurant, and two cafes. As an ASP solution, Revelation frees management to focus on running their business, instead of managing hardware and configuration upgrades. In addition to the IBM touch screen terminals, the hospital also installed easy-to-use Symbol scanners to speed service and reduce errors.
“The use of scanners is an area that represents a major positive change for us,” added Hubbard. “With our old system we manually keyed in every number. With Revelation’s interface to the scanners, 70 percent of our items are quickly scanned, speeding up service and giving us very accurate reporting.”
Revelation’s real-time reporting has empowered Stony Brook’s management to make proactive global business decisions to save money, as well as “on the floor” decisions from live report information. Revelation reports include sales history information, forecasting for planning and production, and enterprise-wide information collection.
“We use the Revelation report information every day,” said Hubbard. “In one instance we were able to alter staffing patterns to improve customer satisfaction and improve employee productivity. The sales reports help us streamline product ordering and forecast product needs more accurately.”
Stony Brook plans to install Revelation in four additional profit centers by the end of the year and add wireless terminals to several remote locations.
