ATLANTA | Onity, the leading global provider of electronic facility management solutions for the lodging industry, today announced that the company has been designated an ENERGY STAR Partner by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). By becoming an ENERGY STAR Partner, Onity joins a nationwide initiative to eliminate energy waste, protect the environment, and reduce costs by helping hoteliers create a strategic approach to energy management.
In March of this year, the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) joined with the EPA in issuing a challenge to its membership to improve energy efficiency by 10 percent or more. More than 20 other organizations, including states, groups, and businesses, also joined the EPA’s ENERGY STAR Challenge, which calls on commercial building owners to assess energy usage; set efficiency improvement goals of 10 percent or greater, and make cost-effective improvements. According to the AH&LA, the U.S. lodging industry currently spends almost $4 billion a year on energy resources.
Brian Bevins, Senercomm/EMS Sales Manager for Onity’s North American division, said, "Conservation of resources through better energy management not only serves to protect the environment, it also reduces hotel operational costs. For the average property, a 10% reduction in energy costs is equivalent to increasing the Average Daily Room Rate by $0.62 for limited service hotels and $1.35 for full service hotels. That represents a significant impact on the bottom line for our customers.”
With a comprehensive line of integrated energy management solutions and technologies, Onity helps their clients significantly improve the operational efficiency of their hotel properties, while cutting energy consumption and associated costs. Through a combination of their products and systems, Onity has regularly produced up to 40% savings in their client’s annual energy bills.
Currently, Onity’s EMS solutions include the SensorStat® DDC, SensorStat® 2000X and DigitalEase digital thermostats, as well as the innPULSE® software, an advanced information system that delivers innovative features designed specifically to reduce operations expenses, improve services, and closely monitor guest rooms for energy efficiency.
"Onity’s designation as an ENERGY STAR partner is an important achievement for us," said Adam Yapkowitz, vice president of sales and marketing for Onity’s North American division. "Our partnership with the AH&LA and the EPA serves to further enhance the value of our exclusive energy management solutions and the proprietary technology behind them. We look forward to working with ENERGY STAR to further educate the hotel industry about the benefits of energy conservation, and to help drastically reduce energy consumption and costs for our clients.”
In keeping with their commitment to environmental stewardship and industry education, Onity recently added an interactive Energy Cost Savings Calculator to the company’s web site. This easy to use program allows hoteliers to instantly calculate the approximate annual savings that could be realized with an effective EMS program. By factoring in a property’s specific location, size and HVAC system information, the program is able to project the specific results that an hotelier could expect from implementation of an energy management system. In addition to calculating approximate annual savings, the program also produces a series of useful color graphs and bar charts, based on the user’s input. These charts include a report that more accurately details expected monthly savings; a payback graph that shows payback vs. cost; an energy cost comparison graph (with and without SensorStat™); and a leasing graph.
