With all eyes focussed on China, IH&RA will host its 42nd Annual Congress “Orient Express: Destination China! New Markets, New Competition” at the Kempinski Hotel Beijing Lufthansa Center, a Leading Hotel of the World, from October 28-30 2005 in Beijing. The Conference includes a power-packed 1-1/2 day Conference with lively keynotes and panel discussions focused on: branding; investment and development opportunities in China and the Asia Pacific; China in-bound and outbound tourism, plus a look at international hospitality trends, training and employee shortages, education and human resources and the very latest from the e-distribution battleground!

Nik Gowing, BBC World Main Presenter, will again be leading several sessions of the IH&RA Conference Programme. Those who attended the IH&RA Congress in Istanbul last year will remember that this makes for a dynamic Conference with full audience participation!

When Will China really dominate Global Tourism?
The importance of Chinese travel & tourism to the world’s economy will kick-off the programme with speakers including Francesco Frangialli, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization; Jean-Claude Baumgarten, President, World Travel and Tourism Council and Peter de Jong, CEO, Pacific Asia Travel Association. Leo Yen, Director, Horwath Asia Pacific, Beijing will then give an in-depth look at the hotel market in China, with Peter Yesawich, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Yesawich, Pepperdine, Brown & Russell providing the closing keynote presentation on customer trends.

Who needs Brands & Chain Management?
Dieter Huckestein, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Conrad Hotels and President Hilton Global Alliance, Conrad Hotels; Simon Cooper, President & COO, Ritz Carlton Hotels & Resorts; Brian Deeson, Senior Vice President Asia Pacific - Greater China, Accor; and Edmond Ip, Chief Operating Officer, North Asia, InterContinental Hotels Group, Asia Pacific will discuss operating international hotel brands in China – opportunities, challenges, lessons learnt and successes. Christopher L. Bachran, President, Jin Jiang International, the leading national Chinese brand, will discuss how his hotels compete with the international brands moving into China and his plans for international expansion.

The Congress will address the latest in e-distribution and the battle that’s shifted from traditional on-line intermediaries to search engines and the practice of “key word buys”. Serial entrepreneur, Stelios Haji-Ioannou, Chairman and Founder of the Easy Group, is slated to discuss his latest project under the “Easy” trademark, EasyHotel, while brand guru Vishwa Marwah, Principal, TATTOO Brand Consulting will provide insight into brand architecture.
