IRVINE, Calif. | UC Irvine Extension, the pioneer of the first “Spa and Hospitality Management” certificate program on the West Coast, has broken new ground, yet again, by offering its renowned program in a completely online platform. The program’s unique real-world curriculum is designed to meet the increasing national and international demands of the burgeoning spa market while providing more options to busy professionals and catering to the needs of a broader audience. The certificate program is the first and only online program of its kind in the United States.

Spa Industry Explosion Creates Need for Business-Minded, Management-Savvy Spa Operators

Today’s spas are serious business. The International Spa Association reports as many as 12,100 spas in the United States, with California ranking as the largest spa market in the country. As the industry continues to grow, it remains the fourth largest leisure industry in the U.S. with revenues surpassing amusement and theme parks as well as motion picture box offices.

“The exponential growth of the industry has prompted the need for spa professionals to enhance their skills specifically related to the business and management issues unique to spas,” said Angela Jeantet, M.B.A., associate director of Business and Management Department at UC Irvine Extension. “UC Irvine Extension’s program is the first university-quality curriculum designed to establish a formal body of knowledge to better prepare national and international professionals in the business of spa. Our program is quickly becoming known as the educational resource for the industry.”

“What we have essentially done,” said Jeantet, “is to take the highly sought-after UC Irvine Extension Spa and Hospitality Management curriculum – which is designed by a prestigious advisory board to meet the specific requirements of this thriving industry – and converted it to an easily-accessible, completely online format. This new delivery system allows UC Irvine Extension to meet the demands of the industry on a global level.”

The unique online certificate program provides the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare the next generation of spa and hospitality senior professionals. The program focuses on the business models and positioning needed for the various spa categories as well as the operations, management, resources, treatments, services, equipment, marketing and retailing issues unique to the industry.

This unique curriculum will be taught by esteemed industry leaders throughout the United States and will feature 7 courses. Students must complete all 7 courses to receive UC Irvine’s professional certificate of completion. The program will feature in-depth studies covering everything from business planning and processes to opening a spa, managing day-to-day operations and positioning for managed future growth.

Enrollment is offered online at www.extension.uci.edu or by phone at (949) 824-5414. For more information about the Spa and Hospitality Management Certificate Program email Angela Jeantet at [email protected] or call (949) 824-5736.
