Mykonos Grace Wins Hotel Design Of The Year Award
First hotel in luxury boutique group nominated in three categories and wins top award at European Hotel Design Awards 2007
The newly opened Mykonos Grace Hotel (www.mykonosgrace.com) has won a prestigious Hotel Design of the Year Award at this year’s European Hotel Design Awards at a ceremony held in London’s InterContinental Park Lane Hotel. The luxury boutique hotel that opened on the Greek island resort of Mykonos in April this year was nominated in three separate categories...
The newly opened Mykonos Grace Hotel (
- Best Architecture at a restored hotel building (Architects, Dionysis Zacharias and Alexandra Stratou)
- Best Bedroom & Bathroom Interior Design (Interior designers, Divercity)
- Best Bar, Nightclub or Lounge (Interior designers, Divercity)
Competing against some of the world’s leading hotel brands, the Mykonos Grace took the overall Hotel Design of the Year prize for hotels that are not part of an established chain. From next year, however, the Grace Hotels concept will expand following the company’s announcement of the development of the Santorini Grace Hotel, Paros Grace Hotel and Residences and Kea Grace Hotel and Residences.
Commenting on Mykonos Grace’s Award, member of the judging panel, Matt Turner, commented: "As its name suggests, this is a graceful, elegant and understated design. The judging panel found that the successful combination of architectural intervention and interior design has succeeded in bringing "the outdoors inside" through its use of natural light, photographic elements, space and colour. By maximising the hotel's stunning surroundings, the architects and designers have created a new contemporary hotel of the highest quality. The clever use of space within the public areas, particularly the poolside bar/restaurant, was also singled out for praise from the panel."
Robin Hutson, Chairman of Soho House Hotels and also on the panel of judges added: “What is exciting about the Mykonos Grace is that it introduces an entirely new boutique hotel concept to the Mediterranean. Its emphasis on design and attention to detail throughout defines the guest experience”.
Located on the sandy and protected Agios Stefanos beach, not far north of Mykonos Town, the Mykonos Grace represents a radical redesign and refurbishment of a former hotel on the same site. The transformation of the property included reducing the number of rooms from 45 to 32 to include some generously proportioned luxury suites. The Mykonos Grace promises its guests:
- An ideal setting, combining luxurious facilities and intimate hospitality services, all designed to create a unique experience of the hotel and the island.
- The comfort of stylish rooms with high-spec furnishings, spacious bathrooms all with walk-in showers, sumptuous beds and the latest in hotel technology.
- Hydro-massage plunge pools, perfectly positioned on private terraces.
- A stunning pool area -set against a backdrop of Aegean blue- with king sized sun-loungers and an attentive staff.
- The ‘Graces’ Boutique Spa and ‘With Good Grace’ gym.
- The ‘State of Grace’ restaurant offering beautifully prepared food and drink using the finest ingredients.
Now in its 10th year, the industry's premier celebration of hotel design is part of Sleep, the largest event of its kind in Europe, combining a hotel design and development conference and an exhibition, which this year attracted some 4,000 visitors, with the Awards scheme. The celebrity guest speaker at the dinner was Wayne Hemingway, the highly respected architectural writer and design commentator who created the fashion label, Red or Dead, and founded Hemingway Design that focuses on affordable housing; he is chairman of Building for Life and was awarded an MBE in 2006 for his services to design.
