In the presence of the head of the Bavarian state chancellery, state-minister Siegfried Schneider, building I of the new Bad Reichenhall campus of the International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef • Bonn, was opened at the Zenostraße in Bad Reichenhall. 150 guests from politics and society, from universities and the hotel- and food & beverage industry followed the invitation.

The building, which houses next to the University of Applied Sciences the Steigenberger Akademie, had been extensively renovated in the past months and presents itself now as a seminar-building with modern class rooms, students apartments, a specialised library and a 200 square metre restaurant- and demonstration kitchen, in which Hospitality Management students acquire basic knowledge around cooking and kitchen. On the occasion of the opening, the university together with the Steigenberger Akademie and in cooperation with the city of Bad Reichenhall and the Steigenberger Hotel Group invited to a kitchen party in the new demonstration kitchen.

The CEO of the International University, Dr. Florian Schütz, characterised the opening as an “important milestone” on the way to the university-location Bad Reichenhall. The rector of the International University, and at the same time CEO of the Steigenberger Akademie, Prof. Dr. Peter Thuy, stressed in his speech the modern study concept, which was always the first priority in view of the renovations: „Akademie-students and university-students have as of now an excellent campus infrastructure with ideal support ratio at their disposal“.

He also emphasised the importance of the two educational institutions – Steigenberger Akademie and University of Applied Sciences – for the tourism industry and the formation of new industry specialists from southern Germany, Austria and South Tyrol. The Steigenberger Hotel Group and the holding company of the International University, Career Partner GmbH, had agreed on a joint venture for the expansion of the educational offerings at the Steigenberger Akademie Bad Reichenhall in April 2008.

Mayor Dr. Herbert Lackner of the city of Bad Reichenhall also pointed out the significance of the renovated seminar building as an economic factor for Bad Reichenhall and as one of the most modern training centres in the Bavarian university-landscape.
