Sparkling Night – a Gala event that allowed the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne to collect CHF 200,000.00 for the Scholarship Fund
A magnificent event was held on the EHL campus on 3 October 2009 in support of the EHL Scholarship Fund. Launched in 2008, the Fund already provides support to 59 students, most of whom come from developing countries.
An auction and a raffle led to the collection of some CHF 200,000.00 thanks to the generosity of the sponsors and guests.
The man who orchestrated this impressive gala dinner was none other than Mr Frédéric Breuil, Chef des Cuisines of the Badrutt’s Palace Hotel in St-Moritz. Numerous alumni were to be found among the 300 guests along with some famous people in the hospitality industry.
For admission to the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, neither passion nor talent can be lacking. But for some, attending EHL remains an impossible dream; not through lack of motivation or potential, but due to insufficient funds.
EHL has no wish to be deprived of these young talents. It would be inconceivable both from the point of view of EHL and for the development of the sector. For this reason, in September 2008, the School took an important step and welcomed seven scholarship students thanks to a generous gift from the Fondation 1796 of the Lombard Odier Bank. In 2009, the number of requests has more than doubled and the Scholarship Commission has selected 17 new students coming from countries as diverse as Brazil, Chile, Thailand and China.
The Scholarship Fund also provides specific help to those students who run into financial difficulties during their studies. A total of 35 additional students have been helped in this way to date.
The funds collected during this event and during other events organised by those responsible for fundraising, will ensure the durability of the Scholarship Fund, thereby opening access to EHL to all talented candidates, no matter where they come from or the means of which they dispose.
