Festival City embraces winter with the announcement of the first festival of the year, the Winter Light Festival from now through March 13, 2010
Edmonton, the leading city in the production of Canadian festivals jump starts 2010 with the launch of the Winter Light Festival, taking place January 6 through March 13, 2010. The Winter Light Festival is an extraordinary community celebration warming the winter chill with free outdoor light projections, art installations, bonfires and transformative trail walks.
EDMONTON, AB, January 13, 2010 -- Edmonton, the leading city in the production of Canadian festivals jump starts 2010 with the launch of the Winter Light Festival, taking place January 6 through March 13, 2010. The Winter Light Festival is an extraordinary community celebration warming the winter chill with free outdoor light projections, art installations, bonfires and transformative trail walks. Locals and visitors to Edmonton, Alberta can enjoy free hot chocolate throughout all the activities that include concerts and comedy shows as well as displays of brightly lit ice slides and snow sculptures.
"Edmonton has a great big awesome Winter Light Festival," states Pamela Anthony, Festival Director. What makes us the festival city of Canada is our strong sense of community spirit here in Edmonton." There are other festivals held within the same timeframe as the Winter Light Festival such as the Ice on Whyte Festival January 14-24 and the Baba Yaga Trail Adventure January 22-23. Ice on Whyte is Edmonton's pre- eminent ice festival, with dozens of carvers creating dazzling art from ice, produced by the Old Strathcona Business Association. The Baba Yaga Trail Adventure takes place at Snow Valley and Whitemud Parks where the whole family can enjoy a night walk, produced by the Edmonton Arts Council. Winter light transforms the Whitemud Trail into a mysterious journey through a magically lit forest.
