In September and October, there are a diverse range of things to do in Halifax to plan a fall staycation around. The Nova Scotia Fall Wine Festival (September 16-October 17) kicks off the season with special wine-tastings, wine pairing menus at Halifax restaurants and winery tours, just a short day trip away in the Annapolis Valley. Take in the classic romantic tragedy, Romeo and Juliet (September 14-October 17) at Neptune Theatre. The red carpet will be rolled out for the 30th Atlantic Film Festival (September 16-25), the fourth largest film festival in Canada, featuring films and shorts by local, Canadian and international filmmakers.

The Fall for Flamenco Festival (October 2-20) features finger-twirling, foot stomping, singing and intricate guitar offered both as performances and in workshops for beginners. The music continues throughout the month of October with the Halifax Pop Explosion (October 19-23), featuring a standout lineup of performances, including local rockers Sloan. Discover Halifax’s exciting art scene during the Nocturne: Art at Night festival (October 16), as local galleries including the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia open their doors until midnight and art installations are featured on downtown streets.
