Langham Place Hong Kong Debuts as Tech-Hotel behind Asia's First Social Media Week

Langham Place hotel in Mongkok, Hong Kong has signed up to become the Official Hotel Partner in Asia's debut Social Media Week to be held in Hong Kong 8 – 12 February 2011.

The five day social media feast will concurrently take place in nine other cities around the globe including in New York, London, Paris, San Francisco and São Paulo in what is believed to be the world's largest social media collaboration attracting 35,000 attendees and more than 10,000,000 impressions.

To celebrate the week, the hotel will be 'Facebooking' ongoing treasure alerts throughout Social Media Week Hong Kong (SMWHK) offering everything from a complimentary HK$20,000 Penthouse package and bottles of vintage Champagne to fabulous offers on spa pampering and two-Michelin starred dining.

To claim a share in the treasure, the social media-savvy (or anyone with a Facebook account) simply need to visit the hotel at www.facebook.com/langhamplacehk and act on the alerts.

In addition to hosting social media's glitterati throughout the week, Langham Place will also hold two key free-to-attend events during SMWHK. The first event: Navigating China's Online Space will be a panel discussion featuring Jiepang, Renren; Kaiser Kuo, Director of International Communications for Baidu, Meg Lee of Sina Hong Kong, and Gang Lu, author of Mobinode.com who will be moderating the discussion. This event will take place from 2:00pm – 3:30pm, Wednesday 9 February at Langham Place's Shantung Room on level 8.

The second event hosted at the hotel is with the man dubbed 'Hong Kong's answer to Twitter royalty'; Jay Oatway. With more than 100,000 followers worldwide and a Klout influence score in the top percentile, his tweets on web trends, social media developments and geek culture are among the most shared on Twitter. Anything and Everything Twitter will be a complimentary cocktail session with Jay from 6:30pm – 8:00pm, Thursday 10 February at Langham Place's Tokoro Bar on level 3.

Reservations for the above sessions or any of the other SMWHK sessions must be made via the website socialmediaweek.org/hongkong/schedule.

Langham Place first claimed the crown of tech-hotel when it launched in 2005 surrounded by a wi-fi bubble complete with internet protocol phones and more than 4000 network connections. Today the hotel is an active social media player, has its own iPad and iPhone applications, and offers guests free iPad usage and iPhone 4 rooms.
