Oxford Brookes launches major industry conference
Oxford Brookes University, in association with Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, is launching a major new industry conference focused on leadership in international hospitality and tourism. The inaugural Brookes Hospitality Leadership Forum, scheduled for 24th June 2011 at The Savoy Hotel, will draw together influential figures to share cutting-edge thinking on successful leadership in times of economic uncertainty.
Oxford Brookes University, in association with Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, is launching a major new industry conference focused on leadership in international hospitality and tourism. The inaugural Brookes Hospitality Leadership Forum, scheduled for 24th June 2011 at The Savoy Hotel, will draw together influential figures to share cutting-edge thinking on successful leadership in times of economic uncertainty.
Commenting on the purpose of the event, Donald Sloan, Head of The Department of Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism Management at Oxford Brookes University commented, "we recognise the value of discussion and shared learning amongst industry leaders, and of hearing from high calibre speakers who have the skills to engage and inspire their audience. From the University's perspective, we are also committed to attracting, developing and retaining young talent, the leaders of the future, in the international hospitality industry. This will be a key focus of the Forum".
The forum will have three main strands:
- Leadership and talent development: mentoring future talent
- Business innovation: rethinking the architecture
- Responsible business practice: from doing responsible business to doing business responsible

The event will be co-hosted by Donald Sloan of Oxford Brookes University and Kiaran MacDonald, GM of The Savoy Hotel.

The inaugural Forum marks the re-launch of the Department of Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism Management at Oxford Brookes as the Oxford School of Hospitality Management. All delegates at the Forum will be invited to help celebrate this milestone by joining an evening drinks and canapés reception, as guests, also at The Savoy Hotel on the 24th June.
