Hotel Prices up 87% for Queen’s Day in Amsterdam

This April 30th marks a special Queen's Day in Amsterdam: the official abdication of Queen Beatrix and the first King's Night, following King Willem-Alexander's succession to the throne. Amsterdam is expecting locals and up to 800,000 national and international visitors to dress in orange and take to the streets in one of the world's largest street parties.

The www.trivago.co.uk hotel price index shows that Amsterdam hotel prices have increased by 32 per cent this month, from an average of £109 per night in March to an average of £144 per night in April. The most expensive day to book is the Saturday preceding Queen's Day, where hotel prices are up by 87 per cent to an average of £269. There is just 12 per cent availability remaining on Saturday 27th April.

Also expensive are the Friday before Queen's Day (up 53 per cent to an average of £220), the night before Queen's Day (up 40 per cent to an average of £201) and the night of Queen's Day (up 51 per cent to an average of £217). Availability is at 12 per cent on Friday 26th, 13 per cent on Monday 29th and 14 per cent on Tuesday 30th.

April tHPI: EU Hotel Prices up by 32%

Hotel prices have increased by up to 32 per cent this month, according to the trivago Hotel Price Index (tHPI) based on the 50 most popular European cities on www.trivago.co.uk. One night in April will cost an average of £97, compared to £93 in March.

Aside from Amsterdam, the most significant price increases in comparison to last month can be found in Munich (up 32 per cent to an average of £133 per night), Venice (up 28 per cent to £172), Nice (up 21 per cent to £97), Prague (up 19 per cent to £93) and Rome (up 17 per cent to £128).

The only significant price decreases can be found in Cologne (down 20 per cent to an average of £86 per night) and Valencia (down 19 per cent to £62).

Although it is normal for hotel prices to increase leading up to the summer season, in comparison to this time last year hotel prices have decreased by 4 per cent. One night in April 2012 cost an average of £101, suggesting hotel prices in general are decreasing across Europe.

Cyprus Crisis: Hotel Prices up by 19%

Those hoping to see hotel prices in Cyprus decrease as a result of the economic disability may be disappointed. Hotel prices in Cyprus have increased by 19 per cent in comparison to last month, from an average of £68 per night in March to an average of £81 per night in April. In comparison to this time last year, however, hotel prices have fallen by 5 per cent. One night in April 2012 cost an average of £85, suggesting hoteliers have not increased their prices as much as they usually would at the beginning of the summer season.

UK Hotel Prices: down by 10% compared to 2012

In the UK, although there is little difference in hotel prices compared to last month, hotel prices have dropped compared to this time last year. One night in April 2013 will cost an average of £84, compared to £88 in April 2012. The most significant decreases can be found in Cardiff (down 10 per cent to an average of £75 per night), London (down 9 per cent to £150) and Belfast (down 8 per cent to £77).
