STR: Canada results for week ending 4 May

The Canadian hotel industry experienced positive results in the three key performance metrics during the week of 28 April-4 May 2013, according to data from STR. In year-over-year comparisons, occupancy rose 0.9 percent to 64.5 percent, average daily rate was up 1.5 percent to CAD$130.11 and revenue per available room increased 2.4 percent to CAD$83.92.

HENDERSONVILLE, Tennessee -- The Canadian hotel industry experienced positive results in the three key performance metrics during the week of 28 April-4 May 2013, according to data from STR.

In year-over-year comparisons, occupancy rose 0.9 percent to 64.5 percent, average daily rate was up 1.5 percent to CAD$130.11 and revenue per available room increased 2.4 percent to CAD$83.92.

Among the provinces, Saskatchewan reported the largest occupancy increase, rising 8.9 percent to 71.0 percent. Newfoundland fell 15.6 percent in occupancy to 73.7 percent, posting the largest decrease in that metric. New Brunswick followed with an 11.9-percent occupancy decrease to 53.0 percent.

Saskatchewan rose 9.7 percent in ADR to CAD$138.43, achieving the largest increase in that metric. British Columbia reported the only double-digit ADR decrease, falling 10.4 percent to CAD$128.13.

Saskatchewan jumped 19.4 percent in RevPAR to CAD$98.28, experiencing the largest increase in that metric. Newfoundland posted the largest RevPAR decrease, falling 17.1 percent to CAD$100.44, followed by British Columbia with a 16.8-percent decrease to CAD$76.61.
