Langham Hospitality Group Launches Chuan Academy To Nurture Spa Professionals

Langham Hospitality Group is pleased to announce the launch of its first Chuan Academy and starting of its first enrolment for the ITEC* Level 3 Diploma in Holistic Massage. The course will commence in July 2013 and Chuan Academy is target to set 10 students up for success in the first intake to become spa professionals in its debut.

The ITEC certified course will last for 150 hours which comprise 50 hours of anatomy and physiology; 50 hours of holistic massage theory and practical; and 50 hours of professional conduct and business awareness. Upon completion of these three modules, students will need to pass the practical and theory assessment as well as to provide sound treatment evidence before they can successfully obtain the diploma. The medium of teaching is English with appropriate Cantonese translation.

Brett Butcher, chief executive officer of Langham Hospitality Group said, "We believe in training. Chuan Academy is dedicated to enabling success for current and potential spa professionals and we are keen to share what Chuan Spa does well and groom qualified spa therapists to work in one of our spas around the world."

When asked about the vision of Chuan Academy, Mr Butcher added, "our goal is to have 100 graduates and nine courses completed by 2015, and we will be offering other diploma and certificate courses in the coming years including Facial Care for men, beauty consultancy, and so on."

The diploma course will be conducted at the award winning Chuan Spa in Langham Place, Mongkok, Hong Kong that has been accredited as an ITEC Training Centre this year. The students will learn in an interactive, real life scene of spa operation where they can have an up close experience in a luxury spa rather than in a traditional classroom setting.

"Students will find it much beneficial to learn and observe in a real life scene of spa operations at our Chuan Spa in our hotels and the small class size will encourage interactive learning, our focus is to ensure that our students will be equipped with necessary skills working in a five star luxury spa," said Barry White, group director of spa of Langham Hospitality Group.

The emphasis of the programme is not only on a repertoire of massage techniques, but also on a well rounded curriculum including proven business strategies, operational know-how, costing and relationship management, preparing the students to become or to advance skills as spa professionals and have a long-term future in the industry.
