Newport Hospitality Group Chooses AHLEI for Online Training
Newport Hospitality Group, which operates more than 30 properties in the eastern United States, has signed a two-year agreement with the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) to provide its employees with access to a variety of online learning resources through CourseLine®, AHLEI's eLearning platform.
Through CourseLine®, Newport associates will be able to access 30 AHLEI hospitality management courses, CyberCinema® online training videos, Supervisory Skill Builders modules, line-level position training, Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively® (CARE) Online, and the Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA®) online review tool.
The online training access, while not mandated, is encouraged, and provides another way for Newport to meet its training mission to "give hotel associates the tools necessary to give guests extraordinary service," said Ashley Fister, PHR, CHT, Newport's director of human resources. She noted that each property has computer access for employees to take online training on site, or they can obtain login information to complete training at home.
"We looked at other training organizations but they didn't offer all that AHLEI was able to provide our associates," said Fister. "With this program, our associates can take courses that can lead to college credit, prepare for professional certification, review areas they may be having trouble with on the job, or follow a learning path that will help them meet goals for advancement."
Newport Hospitality Group is also encouraging professional certification through AHLEI for its general managers and sales professionals.
"Earning professional certification is one of our top goals for our leadership team," Fister noted. "This agreement with AHLEI will help them to meet that goal."
