Key West has just been revealed as the most expensive destination in Florida in which to stay the night. That's according to the latest survey from MiamiHotels.org, which compared 30 destinations in the state based on the cost of lodging.
Specifically, the survey established for each Floridian destination the amount an overnight guest will have to spend, on average, for the most affordable double room during the months of February and March. This two-month timeframe represents the high season for most destinations in the Sunshine State. Only hotels located close to the city center/beach and rated at least 3 stars have been considered by the survey.
With an average price of $327 per night for the least expensive room, Key West tops the rankings. Runners-up are Sanibel and neighboring Fort Myers Beach. Both come in only slightly less expensive on the survey with average nightly rates of $312 and $315, respectively.
Key Largo and Islamorada, the other two Florida Keys considered by the survey, rank sixth and 11th most expensive with average overnight rates of $262 and $223, respectively. Least expensive is Florida's state capital, Tallahassee, where a traveler should find a room for a bit more than $100 per night this late winter.
The following table shows the 10 most expensive destinations in Florida based on the average rate for their cheapest available double room (minimum: 3-star hotel) during the time period spanning February 1 through March 31, 2016.
