Scandic's Director of Accessibility, Magnus Berglund, has been invited to speak at the AccessAbility Perspective seminar in Singapore on November 22, 2016. The seminar, which has been arranged by the Embassy of Sweden in Singapore, addresses participants in the hotel and tourist industry and focuses on how the sector can improve accessibility for guests with special needs.

Scandic is the only hotel chain invited by the Embassy of Sweden
in Singapore to inspire the tourism industry. The seminar aims to highlight how companies and organizations in Sweden are working to improve accessibility and how businesses can use smart design to make life easier for people with special needs.

- Scandic's commitment to accessibility issues is an important element and hopefully the company's experience and methodology will serve as a model and inspiration for the tourism industry in Singapore where interest in these issues is increasing among businesses, agencies and organizations alike. Seeing a private company like Scandic leading the way when it comes to accessibility arouses curiosity, says Håkan Jevrell, Ambassador of Sweden to Singapore.

- The tourism industry can increase its revenue opportunities by adapting products and services to many more travelers, not least to the growing customer group that includes older travelers. I look forward to sharing Scandic's practices and experiences at the seminar and hope to inspire more people to work with these issues, says Magnus Berglund, Director of Accessibility at Scandic Hotels Group.

During the seminar, Scandic will also introduce its "Design for all" concept, an important parameter in its accessibility work. Design for all means that an accessible room should be just as well designed as any other room and offer smart, stylish and discrete solutions to simplify life for people with special needs.

Accessibility at Scandic
Scandic's goal is to enable as many people as possible, regardless of ability, to stay at its hotels. Since 2003, Scandic has had a dedicated Director of Accessibility to ensure that Scandic's customer offering is being developed with consideration for people's varying needs for accessibility. Today, Scandic has a checklist covering 135 points that are covered in Scandic's Accessibility Standard and its own interactive accessibility training course. In 2015, Scandic was named the World's Best Hotel Operator at the World Responsible Tourism Awards for its work to make its hotels accessible.
