Meliá Hotels International Named The Most Sustainable Hotel Company In The World
The company achieves the highest score in the industry, above major international groups, in the latest SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA)
Meliá Hotels International, the leading hotel company in Spain, has just received its individual and voluntary assessment results after having sought to be assessed according to the same procedure applied for listed companies by the SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). Meliá Hotels International achieved the highest score in the global travel & tourism industry. For Gabriel Escarrer, Vice President and CEO of Meliá, "without a shadow of a doubt, this news is the greatest possible acknowledgement for our management model, in which making sustainability an intrinsic part of the business is one of our most important goals given the need for companies to generate a positive impact on society and the planet."
The SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment, is an annual evaluation of the sustainability performance of more than 4,700 companies in all industries based on general economic, social and environmental criteria and specific criteria for each industry. In 2018, Meliá voluntarily took part in the evaluation and achieved the third highest score in the industry as well as Silver Class recognition in the Sustainability Yearbook published by SAM. This year, the Spanish hotel company has set a new record in achieving its highest ever score to date - 83 points (10 more than the previous year).
The evaluation confirms Meliá Hotels International's leadership in economic and social dimensions, having achieved the maximum score of 100 points for criteria such as Climate Strategy, Social Reporting, CRM, Tax Strategy or Materiality. In addition, it also achieved the top score in the industry for criteria as diverse as Human Rights, Human Capital Development, Supply Chain Management, Codes of Business Conduct, Risk & Crisis Management and Occupational Health and Safety.
