The next evolution of the Hotel Technology department in 2022 will be broken down into one keyword "Value".

In the past, we have excelled in providing service and support. In fact, it's been our bread and butter for several decades now.

To move into the next milestone in Hotel Technology history, we have to follow a new strategy by shifting our mindset from delivering service and support, a reactive and on-demand approach. To a more proactive approach by leveraging technology to provide business value and placing this at the forefront of our agenda.

So who do we do this, you ask?

Focusing on our interactions is the magic ingredient. That's the so-called secret sauce to our Hotel Technology's 2022 evolution.

Each interaction needs to be initiated by the foundational idea of providing total business value to our staff, clients, guests, stakeholders, and our company.

We achieve this by:

Focusing on security awareness training for all employees and executives and investing in cybersecurity tools to keep our organizations safe.

Investing in optimization to ensure we maximize all features on the software and systems we use to garner full business value for our stakeholders.

By spotlighting efficiency and investing in automation, we can lower labor costs increase resource availability, and consolidate systems to work smarter and not harder.

Creating an atmosphere full of innovation where your company takes control of the steering. This strategy allows you to increase employee engagement by setting new trends in your industry, which will also help with employee retention.

Focusing on the actual needs of your people and matching the correct technology that will provide not just a solution but will open new opportunities.

The post-pandemic world will be full of uncertainties full of new variations and financial impacts. Investing in mobility and soft skills will help create a collaborative environment rich with knowledge transfer will help those who embrace the change and invest time and effort in developing their teams in the new 2022 hybrid workforce.

The biggest question you hear creeping up all over the place is when things will go back to normal?

The reality is that as humans, we are very good at adapting, and those that realize this are aware that things will never go back to what was pre-pandemic because we all got lean and removed inefficiencies and dropped a lot of waste to get through the crisis. This awakening is why things won't go back to normal, but we need to put in the pieces for the next evolution if Hotel technology is to thrive.

The MSP model in recent years overtook the internal break-fix mentality, and once the pandemic, we reverted to building internal departments. Now just like all hospitality employees, we are all wearing several hats. We have evolved from the traditional Infomation and technology departments into hybrid cybersecurity teams and became the jack of all trades.

We embraced the opportunity to raise our cyber IQ. This is partly due to the constant barrage of cyberattacks, minimal resources, and budget constraints. The best way to keep ahead of the attackers is to take some responsibility in-house if our company survives.

Suppose you are one of those lucky departments that did not minimize staff or that managed to maintain their third-party security partners. In that case, that is excellent news, but for the rest of us, having to take on security awareness and phishing campaigns and tackling maintaining our compliance responsibilities in-house was an enormous undertaking, but it was an excellent cost-effective solution.

The lessons learned in 2021 were plenty, and with so much promise in 2022, Hospitality Technology is battle-tested and fully ready to tackle anything that comes our way, having survived the impacts and ramifications leftover from the pandemic.

We might not look like the same department in 2022, but our core values are still at the heart of what we do best every day, and that's to help people.
