PricewaterhouseCoopers Launches Research Journal to Examine Lodging Industry in Europe

NEW YORK / Jan. 18, 2000--PricewaterhouseCoopers introduces PricewaterhouseCoopers Hospitality Directions Europe, a semi-annual research publication. The journal is the first of its kind available in both Europe and the United States to analyze the European lodging market in great depth and to publish lodging forecasts for key European markets.

The inaugural issue of PricewaterhouseCoopers Hospitality Directions Europe offers an econometric forecast of the United Kingdom lodging market; explores the structuring of European lodging investment; examines new forces shaping lodging ownership in the European hotel market; and qualifies the impact of the Internet on lodging distribution.

PricewaterhouseCoopers Hospitality Directions Europe draws on PricewaterhouseCoopers extensive lodging data collection, empirical studies and solid econometric models to support all positions and conclusions. This scholarly basis distinguishes PricewaterhouseCoopers Hospitality Directions from all other lodging research publications.

In recent North American editions of PricewaterhouseCoopers Hospitality Directions, the practice has calculated such issues as the potential boost in lodging demand from increased travel as a result of the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement; identified investment opportunities for U.S. lodging companies; and conducted a cost-benefit analysis of installing videoconferencing facilities in hotels to indicate ways for the industry to minimize the technology's negative substitution effect on lodging demand.

"The journal is an outgrowth of the quantitative and qualitative research that are the cornerstones of our practice," said Bjorn Hanson, Ph.D. global industry leader, PricewaterhouseCoopers Hospitality & Leisure Practice.
