Hospitality Technology Performance Survey - By Hilary C Murphy
This THOUGHT LEADERSHIP SURVEY on TECHNOLOGY conducted last monthby Dr Hilary C Murphy of Lausanne Hospitality Research (LHR) and Ecole Hôtelière Lausanne (EHL) with a group (20) of IT Managers and Directors that represent 60,000 + rooms and many of the major chains and independents in the EMEA.
The survey was conducted via a self-administered, semi structured questionnaire which elicited information in the key strategic areas of: Hotel Technology Applications present and future, Technology Performance & Relationships with Technology Vendors. This mainly focused on the perceptions, predictions and issues that concern Hospitality IT Directors & Managers.
Technology Performance Ranking
Respondents were asked to rank various statements about technology performance in the context of hospitality on a score of 1(- completely agree) to 5 (- completely disagree): e.g. do you agree that …technology improved back office operations... etc.
It is clear that the perception of improved performance with technology is highest in regard to front and back office operations. It is perceived to reduce the cost of front and back office operations for most respondents (74% & 63% respectively). 63% of respondents also consider that technology reduces the cost of operations though this is coupled with an increase in number of full time IT employees!
This independent, academic research is funded by CISCO and the full report will be available later this year.
