The Algarve Market Pulse 2025 – Chain Reaction: A Hotel Revolution

The Algarve is one of Portugal’s most popular tourist regions, accounting for approximately 30% of overnight stays in the country. Known for its mild climate and 3,000 hours of sunshine annually, it first rose to prominence in the 1960s as an upscale alternative to the Mediterranean. Today, it remains a favourite for retirees and second-home buyers from Northern Europe. The region is also considered one of the world’s leading golf destinations, hosting 31 of Portugal’s 75 golf courses. Strict development controls have preserved much of the coastline, distinguishing it from other overdeveloped European resorts.

Luís Fernandes has been named CEO at VILA VITA Portugal

His top priority in taking the reins of VILA VITA Portugal is to spearhead the repositioning of VILA VITA Parc as an international, ultra-luxury resort. Among the other components of VILA VITA Portugal – both part of the diverse guest experience at VILA VITA Parc – are Herdade des Grous, a country estate recognized for its award-winning wines, and Arte Naútica, one of Portugal’s best seafood restaurants located at a nearby beach club. Mr. Fernandes comes to VILA VITA with two decades of worldwide experience in operating top luxury properties. Most recently, he was executive vice president of hotel operations for Kor Hotel Group, where he oversaw the launch of the Tides and Viceroy brands. Previously, he was the managing director of Las Ventanas al Paraíso, A Rosewood Resort, located in Los Cabos, Mexico, where he oversaw innovative guest services and amenities that made Five Diamond Las Ventanas one of the world’s most heralded resorts.
