In the use of scents for marketing and branding, the hospitality industry has been an early adopter and remains on the forefront of innovation. Four Points by Sheraton is just the latest to announce the introduction of a signature scent. Hyatt has done it throughout their brand portfolio, as did Starwood. Swissotel’s global signature scent is even modified with a “local” component depending on if you are “Unter den Linden” in Berlin or if you are in Tokyo.

Guests checking into the Mandarin Oriental at CityCenter will actually go down to their rooms. The check-in lobby inside the boutique-size nongaming hotel is on the building's 23rd floor, offering customers a panoramic view of the Strip and the rest of the $8.5 billion CityCenter through floor-to-ceiling windows inside the property's Sky Lobby. "The position of the Mandarin Oriental, literally at the entrance of CityCenter, allowed our architects to capitalize on a broad canvas and take advantage of our spectacular views," said Rajesh Jhingon, the property's general manager.

Fontainebleau Las Vegas Files for Chapter 11 After Lenders Renege on Lending Commitment

Fontainebleau Las Vegas LLC and two of its affiliates (Fontainebleau Las Vegas Holdings LLC, Fontainebleau Las Vegas Capital Corp.) today announced that they filed voluntary petitions to reorganize under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code. The decision to file for Chapter 11 was the direct result of certain lenders having refused to honor their contractual commitments to provide nearly $800 million in construction funding for the $2.9 billion resort-casino project, which is 70 percent complete.

Michael Leven has been named COO and President at Las Vegas Sands, Corp

Mr. Leven is a veteran hospitality executive with 48 years of experience in the business and a distinguished and well-recognized record of success. He was formerly president and CEO of US Franchise Systems, Inc., the company he founded in 1995, which developed and franchised the Microtel Inns & Suites and Hawthorn Suites hotel brands. He was previously the president and COO of Holiday Inn Worldwide, president of Days Inn of America, and president of Americana Hotels. He has also served on the board of directors of Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Hersha Hospitality Trust. In his new role with LVS, Mr. Leven will supervise the overall operations of the company's U.S. and international locations.
