Best London hotel conversions | londonhotelsinsight.com

London has a treasure trove of clever hotel conversions, many of which are somewhat hidden from view. Here is a little tour of some of my favourites. St Ermin’s Hotel was originally a Grade II listed late Victorian building constructed as a mansion block. It is thought to have been the venue of covert meetings between spies during World War 2 and has played up this rather exciting heritage as we’ve previously blogged. The most recent refurbishment completed in April 2011 has helped it to soar into the top 30 London hotels on TripAdvisor – it’s certainly tastefully done.

STR Global: Olympic Update

STR Global, the leading service provider of market information to the hotel industry, is reporting the recent performance of London hotels during the 2012 Olympic Games. The games started with the opening ceremony on Friday, 27 July 2012. From 27 July until 5 August 2012, hoteliers across London reported 87.7 percent occupancy and £216.42 average room rate (ADR). This represents an increase of 3.2 percent and 87.1 percent.

Ascott To Acquire Prime Property In London For £159 Million

CapitaLand‟s wholly-owned serviced residence business unit, The Ascott Limited (Ascott), has signed an agreement to acquire a prime hotel operating in London for £158.8 million (S$311 million). Ascott will manage the 230-unit hotel, The Cavendish London, in the fourth quarter of 2012. The hotel, which has a rich heritage dating back to the 1960s, will be subsequently transformed into a luxurious serviced residence under the premier Ascott The Residence brand and will be named Ascott St James London. The transformation of The Cavendish London into Ascott St James London marks the expansion of the premier Ascott brand in the key hospitality market of London.

London hotels busy during Olympics | STR Global Reports

"Hotel performance is strong, London hotels are busy. Some but not all are full; there is room in the inn but overall hotels are in a good position", commented Elizabeth Randall, managing director of STR Global. Historically, Olympic host cities do not sell out, Randall said. Reviewing hotel performance over the past four summer games, back to 1996 in Atlanta, none of the host cities' occupancy surpassed 90 percent for the months in which the Olympics occurred, according to STR Global.

Hotel Prices Rise 26% During London 2012 Olympics | trivago reports

The average price of a hotel in London has risen by 26 percent compared to July 2011. One night in the capital will cost an average of 210 pounds, which is 114 pounds more than the average price of a hotel in the rest of Europe (96 pounds). Whilst hotel prices in the UK and Ireland are up, prices are simultaneously dropping across the rest of Europe and overnight accommodation is on average 10 pounds cheaper compared to June. These are the findings of the trivago Hotel Price Index (tHPI) reported monthly by www.trivago.co.uk.
