Ajoy Kumar Misra has been appointed as Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Tata Global Beverages Limited

Ajoy Kumar Misra, B.E. (Hons.), Civil, MBA has been appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Tata Global Beverages Limited. Previously, Misra was Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, for Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces. Misra joined the company from Tata Administrative Service in 1980. His 31-year tenure included a variety of notable positions, from Sales and Marketing to Operations. A key milestone following the recent inception of the Taj Hotels Brand Architecture restructuring that he orchestrated as Sales and Marketing chief was its selection for a case study by the Harvard Business School. Misra represented Taj in industry organizations like The World Travel and Tourism Council, India Initiative (WTTC), World Tourism Organization (WTO), Hotel Association of India (HAI), Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Confederation of Indian Industry (Cll). He served as General Manager of the Taj President Hotel in Mumbai and Area Director in the Sri Lanka and Maldives regions. He is also Chairman of Northern India Hotels Limited and as a Director of Piem Hotels Limited, Taj GVK Hotels and Resorts Limited, Roots Corporation, NourishCo Beverages Limited, Mount Everest Mineral Water Limited and Taj Madras Flight Kitchen Private Limited.

Chef Deepak Bhatia has been appointed as Executive Chef at The Leela Kempinski Mumbai

With almost three decades of experience in catering to the palate of a global audience, Chef Bhatia’s repertoire boasts of assignments at locations as distinct as Australia, South-East Asia and Russia, among others. After a formal education in Hotel Management from IHM, Mumbai and The Oberoi School of Hotel Management, Chef Bhatia got his initial live kitchen lessons in Mumbai. Chef Bhatia joins us with a rich background of 16 years with Hyatt International. Talking about Chef Bhatia, Biswajit Chakraborty, General Manager of The Leela Kempinski Mumbai said, “We are very happy to welcome Chef Bhatia in our midst. With increasing avenues for guests to dine in the city, we are confident that Chef’s innate understanding of the Indian taste coupled with his international expertise will add to our vibrant gastronomic offering.” Taking on the assignment, Chef Bhatia commented, “I am honored to take on the role of Executive Chef of this historic property. Western European cuisine followed by Asian are what he calls his forte. Chef Bhatia spends his time out of the Chef’s uniform pursuing his interest in sports, health and exploring street food.

Steven Kalczynski has been appointed as General Manager at The Oberoi, Mumbai

Prior to his appointment as General Manager of The Oberoi, Mumbai, Mr. Kalczynski was the General Manager at The Ballantyne, part of Starwood’s Luxury Collection in Charlotte, North Carolina for almost five years. During his tenure, the hotel received a range of awards and accolades, including the AAA Four Diamond Award, Mobil Four Star Award and Starwood’s Tiffany Award for the highest ranking luxury hotel worldwide with overall quality scores in 2008 and 2009. He has also spent a significant amount of time with the Sheraton Corporation, and lived and worked in China.

The general manager of Mumbai's Taj Mahal Palace and Tower hotel, Karambir Singh Kang, still works at the place where his wife and two children were killed. Neeti Kang, 40, Uday, 12, and five-year-old Samar were among the 31 people who died at the luxury seafront hotel after Islamist militants stormed the building on November 26 last year and began shooting. Kang, 41, who has worked for the Indian Hotels Co. Ltd that owns the Taj for 19 years, confronts his past every day when he crosses the polished marble floor of the hotel lobby to his office, near the memorial to those who died.

Christopher Newbery has been named General Manager at the Leela Kempinski

A seasoned hotelier with more than two decades of international experience with leading luxury hospitality brands, Newbery returns to The Leela in Mumbai where he directed the hotel’s operations from 1995 to 1997. Newbery has held senior executive positions at prestigious international hotels for including: Intercontinental Hotels, Kempinski and Hilton. In China from 1997 to 2004, he served with Intercontinental as General Manager at their signature Crowne Plaza properties in Jinan and Beijing and was also general manager at the Kempinski Beijing Lufthansa Center. He was General Manager at the Disneyland Paris and Euro Disney from 1991 to 1995. Prior to that, he was General Manager at the Yaounde Hilton in Cameroon and the Madagascar Hilton. He also worked for the prestigious London Hilton on Park Lane and the Paris Hilton. Most recently, from 2005 to 2008, he was General Manager and Head of Operations at the Serena Hotel in Kabul. Having been involved in hotel development, property refurbishments and upgrades and product enhancement, Newbery brings a tremendous knowledge as well as extensive practical expertise to The Leela.
