NH Collection Hotels and Resorts has landed in the Sicilian capital with the opening of NH Collection Palermo Palazzo Sitano, located on the central Via Vittorio Emanuele in the beating heart of Palermo. Tucked away in a Baroque atmosphere near historic markets with authentic flavours and a few steps away from Palermo's theatres and architectural jewels, this new boutique hotel marks the brand's second hotel opening in Italy in 2025, following the recent inauguration of the NH Collection Alagna Mirtillo Rosso, which caters to the mountain and family hotel segment, nestled in the heart of the Pennine Alps.

Newly opened Villa Igiea celebrates Sicilian glamour and the 19th-Century with Art Nouveau interiors

Rocco Forte Hotels, the prestigious family-run hotel group, led by Sir Rocco Forte and his sister, Olga Polizzi, unveiled its newest hotel in Sicily, Villa Igiea, on 3rd June 2021. Olga Polizzi, Deputy Chairman and Director of Design, in collaboration with renowned architects Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen of Nicholas Haslam Studios, led the preservation and creative reinvention process. Originally built as a private palazzo at the end of the 19th century, the Florio family purchased and restored Villa Igiea transforming it into one of the most luxurious hotels in Sicily. The hotel soon became one of the epicentres of society and Belle Époque aristocracy in Europe. The Grand Hotel Villa Igiea welcomed royalty, dignitaries and Hollywood luminaries with Nicholas II of Russia, Edward VII and George V of Great Britain, Chulalongkorn of Siam and the Duc d'Orléans among its early patrons. Meanwhile, the likes of Baron Rothschild and John Pierpont Morgan would arrive by yacht. The 100-room Grade 1-listed landmark has undergone a meticulous renovation over the past two years; every effort has been made to preserve its unique heritage features whilst blending them with a contemporary flair to exquisite effect to provide the utmost comfort for guests. In turn, the palazzo has been brought back its former symbol of elegance and hospitality whilst evoking the feeling of the private residence, which it once was.

Rocco Forte Hotels Announces The Opening Of Villa Igiea

Rocco Forte Hotels, the prestigious family-run hotel group, led by Sir Rocco Forte and his sister, Olga Polizzi, is proud to unveil the newly restored Villa Igiea. Opening today June 3rd, the historical Art Nouveau palazzo overlooking the Gulf of Palermo, originally designed by Ernesto Basile commissioned by the influential Florio family, returns to its former splendour as a jewel of the Mediterranean.

Announcing Villa Igiea, A Rocco Forte Hotel

Built as a private palazzo at the end of the 19th century, Villa Igiea later morphed into one of the most luxurious hotels in Sicily, rolling out the red carpet for Hollywood celebrities, royalty and soccer stars visiting Palermo. Previously managed by Hilton and then Accor, Villa Igiea was purchased by Rocco Forte Hotels on November 6, 2018. And now, after a full restoration, the property will launch as Villa Igiea, a Rocco Forte Hotel in June 2020. This will be the group's second hotel in Sicily after the Verdura Resort, known for its seaside spa and two championship golf courses.
