Steve Joyce has been named Chairman at the International Franchise Association

Choice Hotels International, Inc. (NYSE: CHH), one of the world's largest hotel companies, is pleased to announce today that its president and CEO, Steve Joyce, has assumed the chairmanship of the International Franchise Association (IFA). With a career in the lodging industry spanning over three decades, Joyce has led Choice Hotels since 2008, and has a proven track record of developing and growing some of the best-known hotel brands in markets worldwide. Joyce has long been involved in the lodging and franchise industries and the global business community. Joyce comes into the role of IFA chairman after previously serving as IFA's Vice Chairman. A long-standing IFA member, Joyce has held many additional leadership roles, including serving in the leadership chairs since 2011 and a board member since 2001, IFA Educational Foundation Executive Committee first vice chairman (2012-2013) and Franchisor Forum chairman (2003-2010). He has served on multiple IFA committees that provide guidance to the organization, including chairing the Long Range Planning Committee in 2009, as well as chairing the IFA 2014 Convention Committee.

Shawn Jervis has been named General Manager at The Embassy Row Hotel

Jervis will join The Embassy Row Hotel after serving as the General Manager, along with other positions held at Terranea Resort, by Destination Hotels & Resorts, outside of Los Angeles, California. Prior to his five years at Terranea, Jervis enjoyed successful tenures in senior management roles with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Grand Wailea Resort and Spa, and Marriott Hotels

Michael Katigbak has been named Director of Sales & Marketing at Capella Washington D.C., Georgetown

A hospitality industry veteran, Katigbak has over seven years of transient sales experience in the Washington D.C. luxury hotel segment. He joins Capella from Mandarin Oriental, D.C., where he served as Associate Director of Sales, overseeing the transient segments, and also the corporate negotiated market and entertainment sector. He was also responsible for developing the property's diplomatic audience and creating key partnerships with organizations such as The Smithsonian Institution.

Jean-Christophe Gras has been appointed as General Manager at Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square

With 14 years of leadership experience with Sofitel North America, Jean-Christophe Gras is a promising choice to guide Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square. He arrived in the nation's capital from the Canadian province of Quebec, where he spent the last 12 years as General Manager of the five-star Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile. Indeed, Gras was integral to the opening team in Montreal, which became the newest flagship for Sofitel's parent company, Accor, in 2001. In the course of his tenure in Montreal, Gras also spent two years as Regional Vice President, where he supervised all General Managers and led four Sofitel North America addresses.

Shujaat Khan has been named President at Les Clefs d’Or USA

Hospitality industry veteran Mr. Shujaat Khan was recently elected President of Les Clefs d’Or USA, the original and only association of hotel lobby concierges in the United States. Mr. Khan’s career spans three decades as a leader in the concierge profession, holding positions in several of the area’s most noted hotels including the Watergate Hotel and the Capital Hilton Hotel, where he is currently Chef Concierge. The appointment was decided by vote of the body of over 600 members and marks Mr. Khan’s second term presiding over the group; he previously served as president in 2006.

Oliver Servat has been appointed as General Manager at W Hotel Washington

Longtime W Hotel Washington manager Ed Baten has left the District for fairer shores — the beaches of the Caribbean to be exact — and W parent Starwood Hotels & Resorts has hired a new general manager from within the company. Baten oversaw the $90 million renovation of the W Washington, D.C. and was named among the Washington Business Journal's 40 under 40 in 2010. He's leaving W to take a job managing the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort in the Bahamas. W Hotel Washington has appointed Oliver Servat as its new general manager. Servat comes to D.C. from the W Paris-Opéra, where he was the opening GM. The Toulouse native has been with Starwood Hotels for a decade, serving in various positions with Meridien hotels, including as the director of Le Meridien Etoile, Meridien's flagship property and the largest hotel in Paris.

Charles Hill has been appointed as General Manager at Embassy Suites Washington, D.C. - Convention Center

Hill was an integral part of the hotels opening team in 2005, where he held the position of assistant general manager and room’s division director, a position he held until his recent position as director of sales and marketing for the hotel. In his sales and marketing role, Hill was responsible for increasing hotel revenue and market share. “Charles has a great understanding of the property and its customers and has done an outstanding job through recent renovations to increase profit margins while continuing strong team member loyalty and customer satisfaction,” said Ratcliff. Recent hotel makeover included design elements to brighten the ambiance and update amenities providing a fresh, modern environment including the hotel’s lobby and manager reception area.

Dan McKeon has been appointed as Resident Manager at JW Marriott Washington, DC

Dan McKeon has been named Resident Manager of the JW Marriott Washington, DC. In his new role, Mr. McKeon reports directly to Satinder Palta, general manager, and functions as the strategic business leader of the hotel’s day-to-day operations. Mr. McKeon comes to the luxurious downtown hotel from the eastern region executive team where he served as the vice president of sales and marketing, providing leadership for over two hundred managed hotels. With over 24 years at Marriott International, Mr. McKeon began his career as a catering houseman at the Washington Marriott in Washington, DC. Over the years, Mr. McKeon has held various director level positions supporting the sales and marketing efforts of various hotels including the Marriott New Orleans and Washington Marriott Wardman Park.

Rob McCulloch has been named Director of Sales and Marketing at Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown

With nearly 14 years at Marriott International, Mr. McCulloch began his career as a sales manager of the iconic Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, DC. Over the years, McCulloch has held various director level positions supporting both individual hotel and area sales efforts including: director of sales at the Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner, area director of sales at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront and Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor and the director of sales and marketing at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront. Throughout these roles, he has gained experience leading the direct sales efforts for all of the brands across Marriott’s portfolio.

Aaron Wright has been appointed as Director of Operations at Washington Marriott

Aaron Wright has been named the Director of Operations of the Washington Marriott, a hotel situated at 22nd and M Street NW in the District’s West End neighborhood. Mr. Wright joins the hotel from the Bethesda Suites Marriott where he held the position of Director of Hotel Operations since April 2011. With nearly 15 years at Marriott International, Mr. Wright began his career as an intern at the Wilmington Delaware Downtown Courtyard gaining experience in all operational departments. Upon graduation, Mr. Wright joined the Philadelphia Airport Marriott as the assistant restaurant manager. Over the years, he has held multiple management positions including dual assistant general manager of both the Renaissance SouthPark and Marriott SouthPark hotels in Charlotte, N.C.

Harry Javer has been named 2013 Annual Giving Campaign Chair at the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation (AH&LEF)

Harry Javer has been named chair of the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation (AH&LEF) Fund Development Committee, which is responsible for overseeing the Annual Giving campaign, the group’s primary fundraising vehicle. Javer is founder and president of The Conference Bureau and the co-founder and producer of the annual Lodging Conference, now in its 19th year. He has been in the event business for 30 years, including senior management positions at The Learning Annex, One Day University, and Rock n’ Roll Fantasy Camp. A strong supporter of AH&LEF, for the last 12 years The Lodging Conference has sponsored scholarship recipients to attend to attend the conference.

Pegah Ghoushbeigui has been named Director of Sales and Marketing at Capella Washington D.C.

Pegah Ghoushbeigui, a hospitality industry executive with extensive experience in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, has been named Director of Sales and Marketing for the Capella Washington D.C., Georgetown, the first Capella-branded property in the United States. The new build hotel is scheduled to open in early 2013. Prior to joining Capella, Ghoushbeigui was Director of Sales and Marketing for the 133-room Latham Hotel in Washington where she achieved exceptional results, consistently exceeding budget and increasing ADR. She also worked closely with the hotel’s Citronelle restaurant operations and public relations team to reposition the establishment for the D.C. luxury market.

Alex Obertop has been appointed as General Manager at Capella Washington D.C.

Alex Obertop, former Hotel Manager at Capella Hotels and Resorts’ iconic Breidenbacher Hof in Dusseldorf, Germany, has joined the management team for the company’s newest property, the Capella Washington D.C. Scheduled to welcome its first guests in early 2013 in what promises to be the capital’s most significant hotel opening in recent years, the ultra-sophisticated, 49-room hotel is located in Georgetown, Washington’s most historic and exclusive neighborhood. Obertop comes to Washington D.C. with an impressive track record of opening hotels for the Capella family of properties as well as extensive management experience with The Ritz-Carlton Company. He joined Capella in 2004 as Director of Operations for L’Auberge de Sedona shortly after the Capella Hotel Group was founded. In 2005, he became the opening General Manager at the Parkhotel Euskirchen and, in 2008, was asked to be pre-opening Hotel Manager at the Breidenbacher Hof where he supervised a multi-million dollar re-launch and established an environment of service excellence recognized throughout Europe and the world.

Chris Thompson has been appointed as President and CEO at Brand USA

The U.S. Travel Association applauded today's announcement by the Brand USA board of directors that Chris Thompson would be its next president and CEO. Thompson is currently president and CEO for VISIT FLORIDA, the state's destination marketing organization. Thompson takes over from Caroline Beteta, who served as interim president and CEO after Jim Evans stepped down in June. Beteta will become chair of the Brand USA board of directors on October 1.

Adriaan Radder has been appointed as General Manager at Mandarin Oriental, Washington DC

Adriaan Radder joins Mandarin Oriental, Washington DC from The Ballantyne Hotel in North Carolina, where he served as General Manager. Mr Radder brings over 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry, including General Manager roles in Saudi Arabia, The Netherlands, and the Bahamas. Mr Radder garnered valuable expertise within the Washington DC market during his tenure at Ritz-Carlton overseeing all four Washington DC hotels including Tyson’s Corner, Pentagon City, Georgetown and Washington DC.

Juan J. Garcia has been appointed as Area Director, Sales and Marketing at Hiltons of Washington, DC

Garcia offers more than 20 years experience in the hospitality industry, beginning his career in sales in 1982 as part of a training program at the Denver Marriott Southeast in Colorado. He quickly moved up holding various positions in sales before becoming director of sales in 1986 for Radisson Hotels in Burlington, Vermont, and Austin, Texas. In 1990, he went to work for Omni hotels and held director of sales and marketing positions for hotels in Texas and California before becoming national sales director at the national sales office in Atlanta in 1992, and then director of marketing at CNN Center in 1998. In 2001, he became director of sales and marketing for Renaissance Westchester Hotel before joining Hilton in 2004 as sales and marketing director for the Hilton Atlanta. His last post was in Orlando where he opened the 1,400-room Hilton Orlando connected to the city’s convention center.

Satinder Palta has been appointed as General Manager at JW Marriott Washington, DC

Mr. Palta began his career with Marriott International as a member of the operations management team at Marriott Orlando World Center in February of 1987. Over the next 25 years, Mr. Palta has been at the helm as general manager and area general manager of several properties in Central America and California including: Panama Marriott Hotel in Panama City, Panama; CasaMagna Marriott Cancun Resort in Cancun, Mexico; Costa Mesa Marriott, Fullerton Marriott, Santa Clara Marriott, and the Irvine Marriott. Mr. Palta holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Punjab in India as well as a Bachelor of Science in Hotel & Restaurant Management from the University of Houston in Texas. Mr. Palta has traveled extensively around the world and is fluent in three languages: English, Spanish and Hindi. He is actively involved in the community and serves on the Board of Directors for the Hotel Association of Washington, DC and Golden Triangle Business Improvement District.
