John Braun has been appointed as Director of Food & Beverage at The Arizona Biltmore

The Arizona Biltmore has named veteran hospitality food and beverage executive John E. Braun, who has 24 years of hotel experience, the historic resort’s director of food and beverage. Braun comes to the Arizona Biltmore from the Hyatt Regency Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he was executive assistant manager/director of food & beverage for seven years. Previously, he held the same position for three years at the Hyatt Harborside in Boston. During the 1990s in New York, he served as the director of food & beverage operations at the Novotel, Park Central Hotel and Sheraton New York.

Gary Lueck has been appointed as Front Office Manager at JW Marriott® Starr Pass Resort & Spa

Gary Lueck joins Tucson’s Starr Pass from Denver, Colorado, where he spent the last 8½ years leading the Courtyard Denver Tech Center as the General Manager. Garystarted his career with Marriott in July 1989, when he joined the ID program as a graduate of the Lodging program at Northern Arizona University. After spending three years at the Portland Marriott Waterfront Hotel as a Housekeeping Manager and Front Desk Manager, he moved to Southern California, where he worked as the Guest Relations Manager at the Anaheim Marriott. Gary then moved to Colorado and joined the Denver City Center Marriott, working in the Front Office, Sales and Housekeeping, and later worked with the Denver West Marriott as Director of Rooms Operations.

Carla Rine has been appointed as Director of Human Resources at JW Marriott® Starr Pass Resort & Spa

JW Marriott® Starr Pass announces the appointment of longtime JW Marriott employees Carla Rine to the position of Director of Human Resources, and Gary Lueck to the position of Front Office Manager. Carla Rine began her long career with JW Marriott Resorts during college, when she worked as the Front Desk Supervisor. Since then, she has progressed through a variety of roles, including Area Director of Sales, Residence Inn General Manager, Special Project Manager, and Performance Development Manager. Her background with JW Marriott, paired with her experience traveling the world for a year with Celebrity Cruises, makes Carla the ideal candidate for this position.

Myra deGersdorff has been appointed as General Manager at Enchantment Resort

Myra deGersdorff began her hospitality management career with Hyatt Hotels in 1976, opening the 1,200-room Hyatt Regency New Orleans and the 1,000-room addition to the Hyatt Regency Chicago. After six years, Ms. deGersdorff left the company to join InterContinental, serving as director of training and management development in New Orleans. She was promoted to master trainer, then to director of human resources, and later moved to Washington, D.C., where she spent seven years overseeing human resources.

Alex Moro has been named Director of Sales at the Arizona Biltmore, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel

The Arizona Biltmore has named Alex Moro, who has 18 years of hospitality sales experience including 11 years with the Biltmore, the director of sales. In his new position, Moro is responsible for overseeing and expanding the Arizona Biltmore’s meetings and events business, as well as assisting in all areas of sales in conjunction with Director of Sales & Marketing Stephanie Hinckley. “Alex is a manager who empowers others to succeed,” said Hinckley. “He looks to surround himself with talented and capable people, then provides the environment and motivation to help them excel.” He joined the sales team at the Arizona Biltmore in 1999 as a national sales manager and later was promoted to associate director of sales. Over his 11 years in sales with the Arizona Biltmore, he has played a key role in the development and implementation of strategic business plans that led to substantial revenue and profit growth. Prior to the Biltmore, he had seven years of national sales experience with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.

Viktoria Riley has been appointed as Director of Sales & Marketing at Sheraton Phoenix Airport Hotel Tempe

Mrs. Riley most recently served as the Director of Sales & Marketing at Frenchman’s Reef & Morningstar Marriott Beach Resort on St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where she oversaw the marketing relations and sales goals. Prior sales experience includes management positions at the Courtyard by Marriott Munich City Center in Munich, the Copenhagen Marriott Hotel in Copenhagen and for Marriott International in the Orlando International Sales Office. A native of Sweden who is fluent in six languages, Mrs. Riley has been honored with several industry awards, including leading the Regional & Global Sales Team of the Year for Marriott International in 2007.

Debra Shinn has been appointed as General Manager at Amara Hotel, Restaurant & Spa

Shinn’s accomplishments throughout her 20-year career in the hospitality industry provide her with the necessary skills to manage the award-winning Amara resort. As Rooms Division Manager at The Peninsula Beverly Hills, Shinn facilitated and oversaw a $7 million Spa renovation. Her experiences at The Peninsula were put to use as she became involved with L’Auberge de Sedona. Her expertise in the areas of personalized service, seamless check-in of guests and eye for detail were evident to the owners and contributed to their decision to tap Shinn to manage their adjoining Amara property. Previously involved in the opening of the Ivy in San Diego, Shinn’s contributions to that successful boutique hotel helped gain the celebrity and hip audience for which it is known. These themes of personalized service, customization and creating top-notch service standards are all skills that Shinn has honed throughout her career and which she plans to use as general manager of Amara.

Jack Miller has been appointed as General Manager at Fairmont Scottsdale

Miller, who began his career as a dishwasher at the Atlantis Beach Lodge in Florida, went on to gain experience at the front desk, in culinary and in night audit, and quickly worked his way to hotel GM in Texas at the age of 22. He was the GM of various Holiday Inns from 1979-1985 and later became president and COO of Appleton Inns in Bedford, N.H. From there, Miller has a long career with InterContinental Hotels, where he was regional VP of operations, overseeing 12 hotels. He held the post of GM at the InterContinental Houston for several years before returning to Florida as the GM of the InterContinental Miami in 2004. For his excellence in leadership, Miller earned the General Manager of the Year Award twice at InterContinental Hotels, twice at Crowne Plaza Hotels and three times at Holiday Inn. He led Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts to winning the company’s prestigious Torchbearer Award three consecutive years.
