Nicholas Remes has been promoted to General Manager at JW Marriott Grand Rapids

JW Marriott Grand Rapids is pleased to announce the promotion of Nicholas Remes from assistant general manager to general manager. An 11-year AHC+Hospitality veteran and member of the original hotel opening team, Remes will now oversee day-to-day operations of the iconic hotel and its signature food and beverage outlets: six.one.six, Mixology Lounge and jdek. With longstanding roots in Michigan's hospitality community, Remes began his career at The Inn at Bay Harbor - A Renaissance Golf Resort in Petoskey, Michigan as a front office manager in 2006. He joined the JW Marriott Grand Rapids team as the assistant rooms division manager in 2007 where he exceled in streamlining the hotel's operations and was promoted to assistant general manager in 2015. 

FHG Announces Opening of Hyatt Place Ann Arbor hotel

Randi Talmage has been appointed as Sales Manager at the JW Marriott Grand Rapids

Randi Talmage has been appointed to sales manager of the the JW Marriott Grand Rapids. Since joining AHC+Hospitality in 2006, Talmage has continued into various roles and into management due to her ambition and eagerness to grow within the hospitality industry in Grand Rapids. In her new role, Talmage will work with the hotel team to visit clients, set up calls with prospective groups and build relationships with businesses in the local area. Given the hotel’s diverse meeting spaces, Talmage’s relationship with businesses in West Michigan is imperative. She will also lend sales support to the Amway Grand Plaza, and the Downtown Courtyard by Marriott in Grand Rapids in the regional market. Noting her familiarity within the state, she plans on working with local groups who have offices in West Michigan, including the Lake Shore, Traverse City, Holland and more. Talmage has filled many roles within AHC+Hospitalty., She began her career as concierge at the Amway Grand Plaza, before moving into convention services where she served as an assistant director. Brian Findley has been named Hotel Manager at Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center

Mr. Findley has shared his talents with five Marriott properties and a total of fourteen hotels throughout his 30 years in management. Mr. Findley began his career growing up on Mackinac Island working in his parent's bed and breakfast and is excited to return to his Michigan roots. Most recently, Mr. Findley was the General Manager of the San Diego Marriott Del Mar. Mr. Findley has also served as an APEX Commissioner with the Convention Liaison Council, as well other industry leadership roles. Brian Behler has been appointed as General Manager at JW Marriott Grand Rapids

Dr. Bonnie Knutson has been named Acting Director at The School of Hospitality Business at Michigan State University

It has been quite a week for Dr. Bonnie Knutson. Last Wednesday, July 30, she was named the Acting Director of The School of Hospitality Business, effective August 16 after Dr. Ron Cichy leaves that position after serving for 26 years. And on Thursday, July 31, The School’s Alumni Association presented her with its Lifetime Academic Achievement Award in San Diego, CA during the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) annual conference. Bonnie J. Knutson has taught in The School since the early 1980’s, and is well known for her lively teaching style, as well as the creative and rigorous projects she assigns in her Hospitality Business Marketing classes. Alumni from the 80’s through today still remember their projects: the late nights, learning to work as a team; being encouraged to think outside the box; and being proud of a professionally researched and delivered presentation.

Ryan Brailean has been appointed as Assistant General Manager at TownePlace Suites

CSM Lodging, a division of CSM Corporation, has named Ryan J. Brailean assistant general manager for TownePlace Suites, located in Livonia, Michigan. Denise Wilson, general manager, made the announcement.Ryan Brailean previously served as guest services supervisor for the Hilton Garden Inn in Novi, Michigan. During his tenure with the property, Mr. Brailean held positions of increasing responsibility in the food & beverage and housekeeping departments, as well as guest services. Prior to joining the hotel industry, he held managerial positions at Jimmy Johns Gourmet Sandwiches and Circus Circus Pizza and Ribs.

Jenifer Cutter has been promoted to General Manager at Downtown Courtyard by Marriott

Jenifer Cutter, an 11-year veteran of the Amway Hotel Corporation, has been appointed general manager at Downtown Courtyard by Marriott in Grand Rapids, MI. In this role, Cutter oversees 100 plus associates in maintaining the hotel’s high occupancy and exceptional guest-service scores. Cutter previously served as the director of front office operations at Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. There she managed all front desk, bell stand, concierge, business center and PBX operations, working closely with the housekeeping, reservations, motor lobby, engineering, sales/catering and food and beverage departments to ensure a seamless guest experience. Under her mentorship, numerous employees went on to become managers and supervisors. In 2006, the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel named her Manager of the Year. She credits the company’s attention to employees for her length of service at Amway Hotel Corporation.

Rebecca Guse has been appointed as General Manager at Courtyard by Marriott

White Lodging is pleased to announce Rebecca Guse has been promoted to general manager of the Courtyard by Marriott in Benton Harbor, Mich. Guse's White Lodging career began in April 2011 where she was the sales manager at the Courtyard Benton Harbor. Prior to her sales experience, Guse was the restaurant and bar manager for Port 412 in St. Joseph, Mich.

Silviya Stankova has been appointed as General Manager at Courtyard Detroit Pontiac/Bloomfield

White Lodging is pleased to announce Silviya Stankova started as the General Manager of the Courtyard Detroit Pontiac/Bloomfield March 17. Stankova graduated from the Sofia University in Sofia, Bulgaria with a focus on political science and management. She started her hospitality career as a housekeeping supervisor, and quickly worked her way up to housekeeping manager at the Hilton Garden Inn Novi before she joined the White Lodging Task Force, traveling to various hotels to perform management duties when their managers are away.

Sora Chan has been appointed as Director of Sales at Baronette Renaissance Detroit-Novi

The Baronette Renaissance Detroit-Novi is pleased to announce Sora Chan as their new Director of Sales. The appointment marks a return for Chan, who launched her career in the Front Office of the hotel in 2004.
