This summer, Fontenille Collection drops anchor in Brittany with the opening of Les Bassans, a soulful new retreat perched on the iconic Côte de Granite Rose. Located in the former Manoir du Sphinx in Perros-Guirec, Les Bassans is more than a hotel, it's an invitation to reconnect with nature, heritage, and oneself along one of France's most captivating coastlines.

A TALE OF BRITTANY

Named after the Fous de Bassan—the majestic northern gannets that symbolize freedom and return—Les Bassans channels the migratory spirit of these seabirds in both name and soul. The hotel embodies this spirit of escape, offering an intimate, inspiring, sea-swept retreat. Its singular light, a shifting palette of reflections and marine hues, infuses the rooms, materials, and overall atmosphere.

The 25 rooms and suites offer panoramic views of the Sept-Îles Archipelago and are inspired by the elegance of 1930s Art Deco ocean liners. Bow windows frame the ever-changing horizon, while interiors blend warm wood paneling, patinated brass, and handcrafted mosaics, creating a refined yet grounded atmosphere. The color palette, soft and warm, in tones of beige and sand (fabrics signed Pierre Frey and Caravane Paris), fades before the blues of the sea and the striking lights of Brittany's skies. Contemporary furniture by KER, Maison Iodée establishes a bridge between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design, as do the woven seats by Ainhoa Perez-Urdangarin. On the walls, vintage black and white photographs anchor each room in Brittany's rich and refined history. Here, Celtic legend and Breton pride meet understated luxury, attuned to the shifting rhythms of sky, tide, and wind that define the region.

ROOTED IN PLACE, COMMITTED TO THE FUTURE

In collaboration with architect Boris Le Noane and the Architectes des Bâtiments de France, Les Bassans has been meticulously restored to preserve the spirit of the original manor while welcoming a new era. The interiors, imagined by Fontenille Collection's in-house architecture team, subtly echo the golden age of transatlantic travel with clean-lined woodwork, aged brass and graphic mosaics, woven into a modern, quietly cinematic composition. The result is a space that honors local heritage while looking resolutely forward.

A deep eco-conscious vision guides every detail. The hotel is designed to meet Clef Verte and BREEAM Very Good standards, with eco-labeled materials, energy-efficient systems, and smart building management to optimize resources. This is a hospitality experience that values impact as much as intimacy.

FROM TIDE TO TABLE

Set against a backdrop of endless ocean horizons, the restaurant at Les Bassans delivers a bold and refined take on Brittany's culinary heritage. With an immersive open kitchen, the menu celebrates the treasures of the sea with marinated or smoked oysters, lightly seared abalone, clams, line-caught fish baked in a crust and grilled shellfish. Each dish evolves with the rhythm of tides and daily catches.

Firmly rooted in regional tradition, the menu offers a contemporary interpretation of Brittany's culinary soul. Dishes such as rolled buckwheat galettes with Guémené andouille, the daily catch, salt meadow lamb and chocolate mousse delicately laced with Nori seaweed reflect this living, evolving identity. Seasonal menus highlight local treasures like clams, artisanal cider, Kouign-Amann, far Breton and Gavottes, showcased with precision and harmony.

Throughout the day, relaxed moments unfold over charcuterie boards and seasonal small plates paired with cocktails. At the Bar des Bassans, the journey continues with sea-inspired creations blending citrus, seaweed and local spirits, offering an ode to the elements and the art of coastal living.

CRAFTED WITH LOCAL HANDS AND HEARTS

Fontenille Collection celebrates local savoir-faire through committed collaborations, an approach that finds full expression at Les Bassans, where every detail reflects a deep reverence for the territory and its artisans. Les Bassans is a love letter to local flavors and craftsmanship, honored not just in what's on the plate, but in the plate itself, and in every material gesture throughout the hotel. Rooted in Brittany's rich artisanal heritage and reimagined through a contemporary lens, the hotel tells a tactile, layered story of place and identity.

Signature tableware by long-time Fontenille partner Jars Céramistes and a bespoke line of raw stoneware by Trégor-based ceramicist Valentine Benoist elevate each meal, combining organic textures with clean, minimalist lines. A striking mosaic by Lauriane Maussion, crafted from marble and glass paste in tones of sand, slate blue, and pale yellow, depicts two intertwined northern gannets and welcomes guests into this coastal haven. The sculptural mosaics in the bathrooms, made from local marine sediments by Gwilen, continue this dialogue between geology and design, with KER, Maison Iodée infusing oceanic mythologies into poetic decorative objects.

Illustrator Maiwenn Nicolas, with her studio Amour Breton, brings a playful take on regional icons through a limited-edition line of Brittany bowls made with the Pornic faience factory. A joyful and inspired first collaboration, this collection pays tribute to local culture with a light, affectionate touch—marking the beginning of a creative dialogue to come. Thoughtfully woven together, these elements embody a modern Breton identity that is grounded yet elevated, raw yet refined, timeless yet unmistakably contemporary.

ELEMENTAL COMFORT

At Les Bassans, wellness is deeply shaped by the rhythms of nature and the sea's restorative power. Facing the ever-shifting tides of the English Channel and the flickering light of the Côte de Granit Rose, the Alaena spa offers a holistic sanctuary tucked beneath the hotel's red granite cliffs, where marine-based treatments meet the calm of the land.

Rooted in algae and other active sea ingredients, rituals are designed to gently restore balance between body and mind. Signature therapies blend ancestral Japanese techniques and biodynamic principles with cutting-edge tools and marine elixirs, creating treatments that are intuitive, personalized, and intentionally unhurried. The bespoke treatment menu draws from time-honored practices such as Kobido and Tui Na, allied with innovative protocols like Nooānce LED masks and Apnée marine elixirs, with each ritual adapted to specific skin needs.

Between sessions, guests can unwind in the granite steam room, soak in the Jacuzzi, relax in the sauna, swim in the indoor pool with sweeping views of the Sept-Îles, or simply settle into the stillness of their surroundings.

BETWEEN SKY AND SEA

Set just steps from Trestignel Beach and the Sentier des Douaniers, Les Bassans is an ideal gateway to the treasures of northern Brittany. From the pink-granite cliffs of Ploumanac'h (named France's most beautiful village) to seabird spotting in the Sept-Îles Nature Reserve or sailing toward the turquoise coves of Île de Bréhat, awe is never far away. Nearby, the Léguer is a wild, protected river and the first to be labeled a Site Rivières Sauvages; it winds through the landscape, embodying the region's raw, authentic nature. A short drive invites further discovery: the historic towns of Tréguier, Paimpol, and Lannion, the majestic Abbaye de Beauport, and the hilltop Château de la Roche-Jagu.

Back at the hotel, the magic continues. Whether it's a fireside game of chess, a quiet moment gazing at the waves, or a shared meal as the sun dips low, Les Bassans is where the essence of Brittany reveals itself, gently and beautifully.
