Regent Karuizawa

The 58-key property will be built in the historic mountain town of Karuizawa in Nagano Prefecture, a popular destination for both domestic and international visitors. Designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the resort will be set within forested surroundings, offering views of Mount Asama and incorporating natural hot springs.

Regent Karuizawa will include rooms and villas, a specialty restaurant with valley views, multiple dining and bar options, and a wellness centre featuring a spa, onsen, and gym. Meeting facilities will also be part of the development.

The opening comes at a time of increasing inbound travel to Karuizawa, which has recorded a 30 percent rise in international visitors since 2019. Known for its year-round appeal, the town offers skiing, golf, waterfalls, historic streets, upscale shopping, and fine dining. It is also notable for its proximity to Tokyo, with Shinkansen connections taking around one hour.

The new resort will join IHG's Hotel Indigo Karuizawa, which is already operating in the area, and complement the upcoming Regent Kyoto, set to open earlier in 2028. Regent Karuizawa will become IHG's second Regent property in Japan and part of its expanding luxury portfolio across the country.

Globally, Regent Hotels & Resorts currently operates 11 properties, with additional locations under development in destinations including Jeddah, Kuala Lumpur, Kyoto, Sanya, Shenzhen, and Riyadh.
