Situated at the base of the Outlaw Express lift, the new-build 63-room Inn balances development and preservation, building on its founder Robert Redford's legacy, while writing a new chapter for Sundance Mountain Resort's story. Anchoring the heart of the Resort Village, the Inn, expertly realized by BSA Architects, comprises two distinct wings connected by a footbridge spanning the North Fork Provo River. As the river runs through it, the majestic Mount Timpanogos lies just ahead. Throughout, the Inn was designed with the same intentional mindset that inspired Sundance from the very beginning.
Conceived by Fettle Design, the Inn's interior design draws upon the layered history of the land on which it sits. Subtle nods to both the heritage of the Native inhabitants and the Scottish settlers can be seen throughout, accompanied by the prevailing sentiments from the 1970s and 1980s, when Redford was most actively developing the resort. The result is a balanced dialogue between Western, Scottish, and 1970s rustic design influences. In a thoughtful evolution of its original architectural language, Robert Redford's design principles remain foundational: respecting the natural topography, ensuring that no construction rises above the tree line, and preserving sightlines to the iconic Mount Timpanogos.
Guests of the Inn are greeted in a reception area distinguished by a tartan-clad desk and signature stone fireplace. Reclaimed timber flooring, rustic ceiling beams, and leather stitch details are blended with a mix of custom-designed furniture, light fixtures and carefully curated vintage pieces. Guest rooms continue this thematic narrative, offering stream, ridgeline and mountain views. Ranging from king rooms to one-bedroom suites, all feature ultrasuede-clad walls, patterned daybeds, and expansive windows framing the alpine views. Wellness-oriented comforts, from calming lighting design to all-cotton Rivolta bedding and linens, were curated by the resort's PhD sleep expert to ensure an exceptionally restful night at the Inn.
Gathering spaces include the Living Room, a relaxed, residential-inspired lounge area offering communal and private dining areas, a cozy wood-burning fireplace nook, and a concentric tree-ring ceiling mural by local artist Izzi Ballstaudt. The Living Room offers a European breakfast each morning, and "alpine tapas" and cocktails in the afternoon and evening. Small plates of note include Trout Rillettes, Jamon Beurre Sandwiches, Bison Chili and Baked Spaetzle. A wraparound deck offers indoor and outdoor lounging, inviting guests to slow down and savor the best of mountain life through every season. The Inn also introduces amenities never before offered at the resort, including a Ski Valet and Boot Room available exclusively to overnight guests.
Echoing Sundance's identity as a haven for nature and art, the Inn houses a gallery space with rotating exhibitions by local and international artists, designed to spark inspiration and invite conversation among guests. The inaugural exhibition, Watercolour Diaries from the Green River features the work of British artist Tony Foster, which depicts the artist's journeys alongside the Green River, a perfect reflection of the Sundance Resort ethos. Inquisitive guests may discover the Inn's Cabinet of Curiosities, a collection of meaningful pieces of memorabilia that are rooted in Robert Redford's life, work and inspirations. One might find photographs and references from his most iconic films, ancient fish fossils from the nearby Green River, books by great environmentalists and more.
Situated steps from beloved dining and social spaces including the Art Studio & Gallery, The Springs, Owl Bar, Foundry Grill and the Tree Room, the Inn serves as the homebase and heart of the Sundance Resort experience. Marked by the opening of the Inn, additional improvements include 60 acres of new beginner and expert terrain, including a new ridge run, Storyteller, that drops 1800 vertical feet and is poised to become a signature run for the destination. In the Winter 2026-27 season, the resort will debut the Electric Horseman, a new high-speed quad lift, which will add an additional 105 acres of terrain.
