La Citadelle Vauban
Emblems Collection Announces Its First Address in France with La Citadelle Vauban in Belle-Île-en-Mer
La Citadelle Vauban of Belle-Île-en-Mer, one of the most remarkable heritage landmarks along the French coastline and a true emblem of the island, will become the first Emblems Collection property in France, joining Accor's newly launched ultra-luxury boutique hotel collection.
Overlooking the entrance to Le Palais harbor, La Citadelle Vauban in Belle-Île-en-Mer holds a unique place in both the island's collective imagination and in French heritage. With origins dating back to the Middle Ages, transformed over centuries and shaped by the renowned military architect Vauban, the site today stands as a major architectural ensemble listed as a historic monument.
Launched in November with the opening of Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa in the Cotswolds, United Kingdom, the Emblems Collection brand aims to revive the Citadel as an exceptional destination at the crossroads of heritage, wellbeing, gastronomy, and local immersion. It will embody Emblems Collection's vision of intimate and singular luxury.
A Heritage Renaissance
First announced in 2024, the transformation project for this charismatic site now enters a decisive new phase with its affiliation to Emblems Collection. The project aims to breathe new life into this exceptional site through an ambitious restoration program launched in September 2025, carried out in constant dialogue with its historical, architectural, and natural identity.
The transformation brings together leading partners, including Valode & Pistre Architectes, Pierre-Antoine Gatier, Chief Architect of Historic Monuments, and Paris Society Consulting, which will lead the F&B concept development.
The future property will offer 90 keys, comprising 49 rooms, 22 suites, and nine apartments, thoughtfully designed to provide both comfort and residential-style stays. Guests will enjoy a rich culinary journey across two restaurants and one bar, complemented by an expansive wellness destination spanning approximately 2,000 square meters, dedicated to relaxation and holistic wellbeing. The hotel will also feature fully equipped meeting and seminar spaces, catering to both business and social gatherings. Completing the experience, the revival of the museum will restore the site's cultural heritage, creating a destination where hospitality, wellbeing, and history seamlessly converge.
The project will combine luxury hospitality, disconnection, cultural discovery, and strong environmental commitments, with careful respect for the local ecosystem.
True to the Emblems Collection spirit, the future Citadel - scheduled to open in Q2 2027 - will offer a rare experience: a spectacular seaside refuge where every stay becomes an encounter with history and the singular energy of Belle-Île-en-Mer.
This approach reflects a clear ambition: preserving the site's heritage integrity while imagining a new hospitality chapter capable of blending legacy and contemporary uses, service excellence, and narrative depth.

The announcement of La Citadelle Vauban Belle-Île-en-Mer, Emblems Collection marks an important step in the brand's expansion. Since its creation, Emblems has gathered exceptional hotels and resorts selected for their character, sense of place, and ability to deliver a more intimate, residential, and emotional form of luxury.
Emblems Collection aims to reach 60 properties worldwide by 2032, with six additional openings already planned by 2027 in Canada, Italy, and Greece.
