The Inn at Hancock

New Hampshire’s Oldest Inn Announces Next Chapter as the Inn at Hancock

Following an extraordinary three-year restoration, the Inn at Hancock will reopen on May 1, 2026, fully transformed and reimagined for the discerning luxury traveler. Originally opened in 1789 and recognized as the oldest continuously operating inn in New Hampshire, the property remains true to its heritage while introducing a contemporary sense of whimsy, understated grandeur and opulence.

Since its origins as a coaching inn serving travelers along New Hampshire’s colonial trade routes, the Inn at Hancock has played a notable role in the region’s cultural life. For more than two centuries, the property has welcomed a wide range of distinguished guests, including American presidents, writers, and travelers drawn to the Monadnock region’s landscape and quiet charm.

Following a comprehensive restoration, the Inn honors its historic character while introducing a design aesthetic defined by unpretentious elegance and globally inspired influences. The reimagined property balances heritage with modern sensibility, guided by a commitment to thoughtful service, genuine comfort, and a spirit of discovery central to the Inn’s identity.

DESIGN

The vision of The Inn at Hancock’s Creative Director, Kerri Landry, was to reimagine the property as a retreat embodying the spirit of the remarkable people, places, and experiences that have shaped her perspective. Drawing on more than twenty-five years leading public relations and marketing initiatives for some of the world’s most renowned fashion and hospitality brands, Landry approached the project with a deeply informed and distinctive point of view. Conceived and executed by Landry’s design studio, Heston Woodcock, and developed in collaboration with Interior Designer Jeffrey Delvy, the property serves as an homage to relaxed elegance, a celebration of whimsy, and a sophisticated interpretation of country life.

Guests of the Inn at Hancock will discover a collection of eccentric yet interconnected spaces that flow together to create an environment that feels at once timeless and alive. Travel, art, fashion, and history coexist in thoughtful dialogue, while each space conveys its own distinct narrative, shaped by character, memory, and a deeply considered sense of place.

The interiors boast a purposeful and richly layered design aesthetic, rooted in ancestral heritage and restrained opulence. Each space within the Inn at Hancock feels both storied and spontaneous, brought to life through bold color palettes, distinctive patterns, varied materials, and an eclectic yet carefully considered décor.

GUEST ROOMS & SUITES

The Inn’s fifteen guest suites offer individual experiences as distinctive as the property’s public spaces. No two rooms share the same personality, ranging from an intimate, Parisian-inspired snug to the understated grandeur of the Coaching Suite. Each suite is appointed with modern en-suite baths, artisanal decorative elements, bespoke furnishings, period antiques, and expressive detailing that defines the guest experience.

A thoughtful range of amenities complements every stay, including in-room air conditioning, telephone service, complimentary Wi-Fi, fresh florals, nightly turndown service, and luxury linens and bath amenities by Frette and Floris London. Guests also enjoy concierge assistance, valet service, and luggage handling. Select accommodations feature fireplaces and deep soaking tubs.

  • Manor Suites: The Inn’s Manor Suites are the property’s most expansive accommodations, offering a quietly decadent interpretation of an Anglo-American design. An antique Chippendale sofa and oak refectory table provide space for relaxation, while woodland scenes and Chinoiserie-inspired fabrics create warmth, texture, and character. Exotic floral silks, bamboo furnishings, and a king bed complete the experience.
  • Historic Suites: The Historic Suites, the Inn’s generously proportioned mid-sized accommodations, draw inspiration from global travel, transporting guests from rural France to the Indian Raj. Vivid textiles, characterful antiques, and expressive wall coverings create a warm, immersive atmosphere, blending the charm of a French country home with the richness of remote influences.
  • Darling Suites: Rich in character and thoughtfully detailed, the Darling Suites offer an intimate, cozy retreat ideal for romantic getaways or quiet escapes. Wonderfully diverse and wildly emotive, the design of the Darling Suites leave room to imagine the drama of a colonial tiger hunt, the grandeur of a Scottish castle, or the exotic allure of a cloistered retreat in faraway lands.

CULINARY ARTS

Innovation defines The Inn at Hancock’s culinary program, inspired by classic French and continental cuisine and presented with understated sophistication. The Inn’s Culinary team emphasizes exceptional locally sourced ingredients and regional artisan producers, creating refined, seasonal dishes grounded in sustainability. The Inn’s four dining rooms, each distinct in character, offer contrasting moods and experiences suited to any occasion.

  • The Restaurant: The Inn’s signature fine dining restaurant-unfolds across three distinct spaces, each defined by its own character. The Formal Room, a Georgian-paneled intimate space adorned in a soft blush hue, is devoted to seasonal tasting menus. The Garden Room, bright and inviting, is framed by expansive windows and layered in florals. The Reading Room, an airy composition in white and gold, is accented by leather-bound volumes from notable American and English writers. Across each setting, guests enjoy seasonal prix fixe offerings and the Library Dining Series, weekly curated menu presented on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
  • PINKS Lounge: PINKS is a rakish and spirited dining destination, balancing indulgence with ease. Inspired by traditional hunt culture and the vivid red riding coats of the field, the space unfolds in a striking crimson palette overlooking the Garden Terrace. PINKS Lounge offers an à la carte grill menu. In warmer months, guests may dine alfresco on the terrace, highlighted by an exceptional raw bar, or gather around the fire pit to roast s’mores to warm up from winter’s chill.
  • Hunt Bar & Scullery: The Hunt Bar & Scullery offers an inviting setting for imbibing and canapés, defined by warmth and conviviality. Whether as a prelude to dinner, a fireside drink, or an evening shared over backgammon, it is a space designed for relaxed gathering and memorable conversation.

COUNTRY PURSUITS

Evoking the charm and refinement of an English country house, The Inn at Hancock serves as a retreat for country pursuits, outdoor adventure, and creative escape. Set amid rolling pastoral landscapes and sweeping mountain views, the region offers exceptional access to activities ranging from fly fishing and shooting to hiking, skiing, sailing, automotive touring, cycling, and distinguished antiquing. The Inn’s concierge team ensures each stay is effortless, thoughtfully curating bespoke experiences through trusted regional guides and connecting guests with the character of the surrounding landscape.

The transformation of this historic New England landmark reflects a contemporary vision of luxury, immersion in nature, and the pleasures of refined living. Looking ahead, The Inn will further elevate the guest experience through dedicated wellbeing spaces and programming, alongside new dining, retail, and hospitality ventures underway in nearby Peterborough by Landry and her team. These initiatives are intended to enrich the local community while enhancing the region’s appeal to discerning travelers.
