La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club Begins Phase Two of $60 Million Renovation

The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, a landmark 21-acre coastal resort with a 90-year legacy, has begun the second phase of its $60 million resort-wide renovation with the redesign of 90 guest rooms. Steps from the sand on one of Southern California’s most celebrated private beaches, the project is slated for completion by Memorial Day 2027.

Phase one of the renovation, completed in spring 2025, enhanced key areas of the Beach Club including the pool and deck, Club Dining restaurant, and back-of-house facilities and introduced a new Club Market. The guest room redesign continues that same commitment to refreshing the resort experience for members and guests.

Carrier Johnson, an award-winning architecture firm with a dedicated luxury hotel design practice, is overseeing the architectural enhancements, which include expanding bathrooms and kitchens, creating more view-focused spaces, and introducing additional natural light to improve the overall guest stay. The interiors are being reimagined in collaboration with Oltra Design Studio, founded by Nicole Federico, a veteran of one of San Diego's leading hospitality design firms.

Inspired by the spirit of La Jolla and the easy elegance of the California coast, every room will be reimagined from entry to living space. The warmth of sunlit pines, the quiet rhythm of the tides, and the enduring charm of Spanish architecture inform a palette rooted in sand, surf, and

sky, with natural materials and sun-washed textures running throughout. Subtle nods to the Torrey Pines landscape and the area's Spanish influence add warmth and authenticity, creating an atmosphere that feels effortlessly welcoming and deeply rooted in place. Bedrooms center on a deep navy upholstered bed with brass nail head trim, flanked by light oak nightstands and a swivel lounge chair. Bathrooms feature a walk-in shower finished with tile, a fluted wood vanity with quartz countertops, and a wide lighted mirror.

The same coastal aesthetic extends to kitchens and living spaces. Light oak cabinetry, quartz countertops, and a navy-painted island with antique brass hardware carry the palette into the kitchen, while living areas feature a navy sofa sleeper, white painted wainscoting, and a round dining table with upholstered chairs, equally suited to a family gathering or a quiet weekend by the water.

La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club will remain open during the guest room renovation, which will be completed in stages to avoid any disruption. Members and guests will continue to enjoy direct beach access, a heated junior Olympic-size pool with seven private cabanas, 13 championship tennis courts, five pickleball courts, a nine-hole par-three golf course, fitness center, massage services, and beach services including complimentary chair and umbrella set up and firepits. Dining options include Club Dining, Walnut Lounge, Club Market, the woodfired pizza oven and patio, and the award-winning Marine Room. The property also features more than 18,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor event space.
