Built in 1869, the property was Innsbruck’s first luxury hotel and remains one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Positioned directly opposite the central train station, it quickly became a distinguished meeting place for aristocrats, business leaders, artists and international travellers. In 1883, the hotel added its celebrated Barocksaal (Baroque Salon), which went on to host receptions, balls and social gatherings and events. Over the years, the hotel has welcomed notable guests including Queen Elizabeth II, Albert II of Monaco or The Rolling Stones.
The hotel will offer approximately 120 rooms and is scheduled to open in 2029 following an ambitious full renovation, marking the arrival of the NH Collection brand in the heart of Tyrol and reinforcing Minor Hotels’ presence in Austria’s vibrant urban hospitality market.
The agreement has been signed with Dr Ernst Hutterer, owner of the property, committed to preserving and revitalising one of Innsbruck’s most iconic hotels. International real estate advisory firm Christie & Co supported the structured operator search process.
Just minutes from the historic centre and surrounded by the Tyrolean Alps, NH Collection Innsbruck Grand Hotel Europa has direct access to the city’s main cultural, tourist and business attractions.
The hotel is within walking distance of key landmarks including the Golden Roof, Maria-Theresien-Straße, the Imperial Hofburg, the Court Church, the Stadtturm, the Hofgarten and Congress Innsbruck, further enhancing its appeal to both international visitors and domestic travellers.
Following its renovation, the property is expected to reclaim its position as one of the city’s flagship hotels, combining its historic character with the contemporary standards of the NH Collection brand. The revitalisation plan also includes an increase in guestrooms, the addition of further floors and the development of a rooftop bar, reinforcing the hotel’s ambition to become a new benchmark in Innsbruck’s hospitality scene.
NH Collection Innsbruck Grand Hotel Europa is being designed as a destination for both hotel guests and local residents. The property is expected to feature a restaurant and bar with external access, a wellness area, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and dedicated spaces for meetings and events.
A defining element of the project is the revival of the historic Baroque Hall, will again become a prestigious venue for celebrations, events and social gatherings.
The signing of NH Collection Innsbruck Grand Hotel Europa further strengthens Minor Hotels’ footprint in Austria. The group already operates eight hotels in Vienna, Salzburg and Graz, and the addition of Innsbruck expands its presence into one of the country’s most important destinations.
With NH Collection Innsbruck Grand Hotel Europa, Minor Hotels reinforces its commitment to expanding in high-potential urban destinations through distinctive assets, while further strengthening NH Collection as a brand defined by premium hospitality, local character and memorable guest experiences.
