The Alpine House

Alpine House Reimagined: The Intimate 20-Room Hotel Returns with Fresh Interiors Rooted in Place and Connection

Today, Alpine House unveils a new chapter following an extensive renovation and refined guest experience. Embracing the spirit of a true home away from home, Alpine House has been reborn for the culturally aware, well-traveled guest who deeply respects the region’s history and relishes the opportunity to experience Jackson at a more thoughtful pace. Erik Warner, Owner of Alpine House, commissioned Elizabeth Roberts Architects to thoughtfully reimagine the independent hotel’s design through this lens and to infuse the spaces with the character and heritage of Jackson, balancing comfort, craftsmanship, and a deep sense of place.

Located in downtown Jackson, the 20-room hotel draws inspiration from the family-owned mountain lodges of Europe. Just minutes from Grand Teton National Park and the town's quaint restaurants, galleries, and outdoor pursuits, Alpine House serves as a year-round base for exploring one of America's most iconic landscapes. The reopening marks a thoughtful evolution of Alpine House, elevating the guest experience while preserving the intimacy and character that have long defined the property since it was first established by former US Olympians Hans and Nancy Johnstone – Hans who competed in Nordic combined at the 1988 Olympics and Nancy in the biathlon at the 1992 Olympics. Alpine House was conceived as an authentic expression of Nordic hospitality, by people firmly entrenched in the lifestyle – a cornerstone of the property that has remained to this day. The same couple also founded the nearby Turpin Meadow Ranch, a sister property to Alpine House.

To bring this vision to life, Alpine House’s owner intentionally selected Brooklyn-based Elizabeth Roberts Architects, renowned for its highly contextual residential work and sophisticated use of texture, materiality, and atmosphere. Inspired by the intimacy of a family home and the understated charm of European alpine inns, the redesign favors spaces that feel collected rather than curated – shaped by warmth, memory, and a genuine sense of lived experience. Throughout the property, vintage finds, layered textures, and handcrafted details create interiors that embrace character over perfection, resulting in spaces that feel timeless, welcoming, and deeply personal. No two rooms are alike, yet each shares a sense of refined simplicity and quiet elegance, with vintage and reupholstered furnishings, Pendleton textiles, and natural materials coming together to create a softer, more residential interpretation of Western hospitality.

Through this evolution, Alpine House will continue to serve as a restful and serene gathering place. Led by Richard Ampudia, a founding culinary force behind New York's La Esquina and a godfather of the city's modern Mexican dining, Alpine House’s culinary program celebrates the flavors of the region. At the heart of the property is The Kitchen, where locally sourced ingredients and regional flavors are complemented by subtle European influences, while The Bar offers house-made cocktails crafted by pairing seasonal ingredients and local spirits in a relaxed setting. Complementing the experience is a rotating calendar of community programming and cultural experiences throughout Jackson, including the Uncommon Art Residency, the Jackson Hole People's Market, Wyoming Stargazing, and the Jackson Hole Rodeo. Guests at Alpine House can also enjoy access to the broader Jackson collection including the charming Anvil Hotel and neighborhood dining gem Glorietta Trattoria led by James Beard nominee Chef Remle Colestock.
