Joining Gabriel Escarrer, Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, were Álvaro Sans, founding architect of ASAH Studio; María Francisca Caracuel, Vice President of the Provincial Council of Málaga; and Carmen Sánchez Sierra, Regional Delegate of the Andalusian Government, who welcomed a project marking the arrival of The Meliá Collection on the Costa del Sol. The opening further reinforces Meliá Hotels International’s commitment to destinations with a strong sense of place and to a concept of luxury deeply connected to its surroundings.

An evening inspired by the endless summers of the Mediterranean

The celebration took place across the hotel’s outdoor spaces, where gardens and open-air areas overlooking the sea hosted an experience conceived as a tribute to southern summers. Built around the creative concept of the “endless summers of the Mediterranean, nautical culture and the timeless elegance of seaside living,” the inauguration unfolded as a journey from sunset into the evening, accompanied by music, carefully curated lighting and a gastronomic offering inspired by the destination. As part of the programme, singer Nuria Fergó performed live, bringing an authentic and distinctly Mediterranean character to the event.

A hospitality concept designed for wellbeing and family enjoyment

The hotel has been conceived as a destination in its own right, designed for travellers looking to incorporate wellbeing into their holidays, as well as for families seeking to enjoy meaningful experiences together in an exceptional natural setting. Facing the Mediterranean and surrounded by 45,000 square metres of gardens, the hotel invites guests to embrace outdoor living and connect with the rhythm of southern Spain, offering direct beach access, three outdoor pools and expansive open spaces designed for both relaxation and shared experiences.

With 131 guestrooms and suites, the project combines contemporary design with natural materials and architecture that harmonises with its surroundings, creating spaces designed for rest, comfort and a connection with the landscape.

Originally inaugurated in 1999 under the patronage of Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe, this renewed icon of the Costa del Sol’s luxury lifestyle begins a new chapter under The Meliá Collection, Meliá Hotels International’s brand of exceptional and distinctive hotels. In keeping with the brand’s philosophy, Hacienda del Mar offers an experience focused on wellbeing beyond accommodation. Its comprehensive wellness area features six treatment rooms, a heated indoor pool, Finnish sauna, steam room and relaxation spaces, and is home to MAIA SPA, a concept inspired by the mythological figure Maia. The spa offers a carefully curated selection of health and beauty treatments combining innovative techniques to deliver both immediate and long-lasting wellbeing.

Mediterranean-inspired gastronomy

The hotel’s culinary offering is one of the cornerstones of the guest experience, designed to accompany every moment of the day while celebrating the rich flavours of southern Spain, from locally inspired breakfasts to seafront dining experiences.

Neguri Beach Club, located on the Mediterranean shoreline, draws inspiration from yacht clubs and offers a relaxed yet sophisticated experience centred on seafood cuisine. Burladero reimagines Andalusian culinary traditions through a contemporary lens, highlighting locally sourced ingredients and iconic regional recipes. The gastronomic offering is completed by Almenara, where breakfast brings together architecture and landscape, and Umbral, the lobby bar conceived as a social hub where guests can slow down and unwind.

With this opening, Hacienda del Mar, member of The Meliá Collection, begins its journey in Estepona as part of Meliá Hotels International’s luxury portfolio, joining the destination as an enclave that seamlessly combines natural surroundings, wellbeing, gastronomy and memorable experiences. The project strengthens the company’s presence in Andalusia and reinforces its commitment to a hospitality model that celebrates authenticity, the Mediterranean lifestyle and a deep connection with the local environment.
