Van der Valk Hotel Köln am Dom

Valk Exclusief Starts Construction of New Four-Star Superior Hotel in the Heart of Cologne, Germany

With the announcement of Van der Valk Hotel Köln am Dom, Dutch hotel group Valk Exclusief is offering an early preview of one of its most important German openings planned for 2028.

History, hospitality and modern design

Just a five-minute walk from Cologne Cathedral and the city's central railway station, a new hotel is being developed in the former Deutsche Post sorting center on Stolkgasse. The building has a rich history associated with Deutsche Post, Deutsche Bahn and the German Architecture Award. The hotel will feature modern facilities for travel, meetings and relaxation, while subtle details in the interior design will reference the building's historical heritage.

The building, with its distinctive natural stone and glass façade, was designed by renowned architect Paul Teunissen. For the development of the project, Valk Exclusief is working with experienced partners including REESE Baumanagement, Ten Brinke, Tecco Technieken, Elektro Klein and Nijboer Interieur. After years of vacancy, the property, which had long stood as an unfinished building in the city, will be given a new purpose as a high-quality four-star superior hotel in this prominent location.

Expansion in Germany

With the new property, Valk Exclusief is further expanding its presence in Germany, following the successful development of Van der Valk Hotel Düsseldorf in recent years as a popular destination for both business and leisure guests.

Cologne is one of Germany’s most dynamic cities. With our new hotel, we want to create a place where business travelers, city visitors and Cologne residents immediately feel at home,” said Adriaan van der Valk, who, together with his wife Willemijn van der Valk, is director of both the new Hotel Köln am Dom and Van der Valk Hotel Düsseldorf. “But it will be more than just a hotel. We are creating an urban oasis in the heart of this vibrant cathedral city, where sustainability, distinctive gastronomy and a contemporary lifestyle come together.

Rooms, suites and long-stay accommodation

The hotel will span six floors and feature a total of 338 stylishly designed rooms, suites and long-stay apartments. Guests will also have access to several fine-dining restaurants, modern workspaces in the lobby and ten multifunctional meeting and event rooms for meetings, conferences and other gatherings. The property will also include an extensive fitness and wellness area with a swimming pool.

One of the hotel’s most distinctive features will be a publicly accessible rooftop bar offering impressive views of Cologne Cathedral. The hotel will also include an underground parking garage with 260 parking spaces.

With approximately 220 jobs, as well as a range of apprenticeship and internship opportunities, the hotel is also expected to become an important employer in the region.

“For us, Cologne represents an important milestone in the further development of our hotel group in Germany,” Adriaan van der Valk concluded. “We look forward to bringing our hospitality and family culture to life here as well.”
