Meliá Backs Central America’s Future with the Signing of a New Resort in Roatán, Honduras
Meliá Hotels International continues to expand its footprint in Latin America with the signing of Meliá Roatán, a spectacular new-build resort scheduled to open in 2029 on the Honduran island of Roatán. The project marks a new milestone for the company in Honduras, where, less than a year ago, Media Luna Resort & Beach Club joined its network under the Affiliated by Meliá brand and is set to become Sol Roatán. It also reinforces Meliá’s firm commitment to growth in Central America, a region with enormous tourism potential and a strategic opportunity to further increase awareness of its brands.

Set against the turquoise waters of the Caribbean and surrounded by some of the region’s most extraordinary scenery, Meliá Roatán has been conceived to become a leading name in resort hospitality in the destination. Roatán, the largest of Honduras’ Bay Islands, has emerged as one of the Caribbean’s most attractive up-and-coming destinations, thanks to its white-sand beaches, lush tropical landscapes and exceptional marine biodiversity, protected by the Mesoamerican Reef System, the world’s second-largest coral reef.
Operating under the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand, the new complex will feature 350 rooms and suites, complemented by 145 exclusive Branded Residences. By combining residential use with hotel management, this model diversifies the project’s value proposition and responds to growing demand from investors seeking to pair home ownership with access to the services, standards and experience of a global hotel brand. In doing so, Meliá continues to strengthen a business line set to play an increasingly prominent role in its international growth strategy.
Designed as an oceanfront retreat, the resort will feature contemporary, tropical-inspired architecture that blends naturally with its surroundings. Tiered volumes, generous terraces, open-plan spaces and lush gardens will connect indoor and outdoor living, maximising natural light and Caribbean views while reflecting the island’s distinctive lifestyle.
Meliá Roatán will also offer a comprehensive leisure and wellness proposition, including a range of dining concepts, a beach club, wellness and spa facilities, retail spaces, and extensive meeting and event facilities, catering both to holidaymakers and to travellers combining business and leisure.
The signing also reflects Meliá’s growing interest in Central America, a region where the company sees significant long-term development opportunities. Markets such as Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras bring together some of the qualities most valued by today’s international travellers: natural richness, cultural authenticity, improving connectivity and considerable scope for high-quality hospitality projects.
Against this backdrop, Meliá intends to continue exploring opportunities for brands such as Meliá Hotels & Resorts, The Meliá Collection, ZEL, INNSiDE by Meliá and Sol by Meliá, tailoring each proposition to the character of its destination and to the expectations of a new generation of travellers seeking more authentic, flexible experiences connected to the local lifestyle.
The signing of Meliá Roatán further strengthens the solid partnership between Meliá Hotels International and entrepreneur Piero Dibattista, whose contribution has been instrumental in bringing to life a project set to elevate the destination’s tourism offering.
