Prior to joining The Leela, Koopman was the Director of Middle East Operations, Anantara Hotels, Resorts and Spas, United Arab Emirates, and General Manager of Eastern Mangroves Hotel and Spa. Koopman’s successful stints with leading global hotel groups, including Hyatt International, Hilton and Intercontinental, have taken him to various international destinations — Europe, Australia, China and other Asian countries like Shanghai, China and Bali, Indonesia. Well-versed with multicultural and dynamic environments, he rapidly raised his professional capabilities from Director of Food & Beverage to Executive Assistant Manager (Rooms) to serving General Manager’s role several times with Hyatt International and Intercontinental group. He has also overseen regional operations as Director of Middle East Operations, Anantara Hotels, Resorts and Spas. Koopman holds equal interest in “people” and “marketing” which he considers to be key in the success of any hotel. Koopman holds a graduate degree from Steigenberger Hotelberufsfachule, Germany and an undergraduate degree from HotelSchool, The Hague, Holland.
