Joachim Sommer has been named Director at InterCityHotel Mannheim

Locally born Joachim Sommer has been at the helm of the InterCityHotel Mannheim since the beginning of October, having made the move from the nearby InterCityHotel Speyer, where he held the position of Director until mid-2012. There was a change in management at the InterCityHotel Mannheim on 1 October, when Joachim Sommer formally took over as the establishment's new Director. Mr. Sommer succeeds Robert Boller, who moved to the Head Office of the Steigenberger Hotel Group. Born in the nearby Palatinate region, Joachim Sommer is already a familiar figure at Steigenberger. He began his professional career in the hotel business as long ago as 1991, when he became Head of Housekeeping at the Steigenberger Mannheimer Hof. This was followed by stints at various other establishments including the Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof, the InterCityHotel Frankfurt and the Steigenberger Maxx Hotel on the island of Rügen before he took on his first senior management role at the Steigenberger Gourmet Service at the Deutsche Bank training centre in Kronberg. Mr. Sommer then went on to manage the InterCityHotel Speyer from 2004 until mid-2012 and remained in post after InterCityHotel transferred the hotel to a new operator. He is now returning to the fold by rejoining the Steigenberger Hotel Group.
