Philippe Gombert has been named President at Relais & Chateaux

hilippe Gombert, owner of Chateau de la Treyne in the Dordogne, is the new International President of Relais & Chateaux. M Gombert was elected at the association’s 39th International Congress held in Berlin (November 17-19) and attended by almost 500 member hoteliers and restaurateurs. He will lead Relais & Chateaux for a four-year term working closely with his Executive Committee which includes Andrew Stembridge, managing director of Chewton Glen and Cliveden, and an International Board of Directors whose 19 delegates include Malcolm Lewis, managing director of Longueville Manor in Jersey. Philippe Gombert takes over from Jaume Tapies who held the post for eight years. Executive Committee and Board members are selected from the exclusive association’s membership of 520 hotels and restaurants worldwide, and are responsible for upholding the rigorous standards of quality and creative art-de-vivre culture on which Relais & Chateaux’s high reputation depends. Philippe Gombert is a third generation hotelier and trained lawyer. His family left Paris in 1982, returning to its ancestral roots in south west France with the acquisition of the Chateau de la Treyne, which overlooks the river Dordogne at Lacave (Lot).
