Mr. Atkeson joined Starwood in 2008 as the General Manager of the Westin Georgetown. Fully repositioning Westin Georgetown during his tenure, he and his team received top honors in employee engagement, profitability, and market share. In 2012, he was named "General Manager of the Year" by Host Hotels and Resorts. Prior to joining Starwood, Mr. Atkeson worked for Marriott Hotels and Resorts for 25 years, a tenure that includes stints as general manager of the Renaissance Harborplace hotel in Baltimore and the Renaissance Hotel in historic Charleston, South Carolina. His extensive background in sales, marketing and operations in the field of hospitality will be beneficial in his newest role at W Washington DC where he will oversee all aspects of management for the 317-room hotel, POV, the city's only Bliss® spa and Pinea, the hotel's new Mediterranean-inspired restaurant helmed by Chef Barry Koslow. Additionally, Mr. Atkeson is a native Washingtonian, has spent much of his life and career in the area with his wife and 5 children, and is on the board of the Hotel Association of Washington DC making him a consummate expert in Washington's hospitality industry.
