Torill Wijnen has been appointed as W Insider at W Amsterdam

W Amsterdam has announced Torill Wijnen as the W Insider following a nation-wide search. During a face-to-face casting session in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam-born Torill was handpicked from hundreds of candidates, who all applied for the sought-after position at the hotel. She will take up herposition from September when W Amsterdam officially opens in the heart of Amsterdam. An integral role at all W Hotels, the W Insider connects global jetsetters and local tastemakers to what’s new and next in the city and destination, ensuring they have access to the hottest design, fashion and music experiences. “W Insider is a critical role and we were looking for someone who really embodied the passion and flair of the W brand and the vibrancy of Amsterdam” explained Igor Buercher, General Manager, W Amsterdam. “Torill lives up to everything a W Insider should be and showed she could think on her feet, multi-task, and stay calm under pressure to deliver everything we asked of her in true W style. We are thrilled to welcome her on board.” After receiving hundreds of applications, W Amsterdam worked closely with an illustrious panel of leading Dutch influencers including Mariette Hoitink, director of HTNK Fashion Recruitment and Consultancy and co-founder of the House of Denim and Karin Swerink, editor-in-chief of Vogue Netherlands. Supported by W brand experts - W Insider for W London – Leicester Square, Jessica Patman and the hotel’s General Manager, Igor Buercher, the panel narrowed the entrants down to just nine finalists. Those chosen were invited to meet face-to-face with the judges at the ultimate casting session at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam, where they were challenged to showcase how they exemplified W Amsterdam’s core values. The finalists battled it out with two hypothetical tasks designed to show off their knowledge – from recommending the latest places to be and be seen, to demonstrating their ability to handle unique need-to-know happenings. This included arranging a new outfit, stylist and hairdresser for Alexa Chung (who had lost her luggage enroute to W Amsterdam) and recommending a 10 Euro birthday gift for musician Jamie Hince. Winning candidate Torill impressed the judges with her attention to detail and knowledge of leading Dutch designers.
