Klaus Assmann has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer at Aldar Hotels and Hospitality LLC

One of Abu Dhabi's leading hotel owning firms has a new CEO. Klaus Assmann is the new chief executive of Aldar Hotels and Hospitality - the hospitality division of the publicly listed Aldar Properties. Assmann moves from Dubai to the capital, having been cluster general manager of Fairmont the Palm, Th8, Movenpick JLT and Riva Beach Club. He worked in the cluster for almost two years.

Assmann will head up the entire hospitality division, which includes hotels such as W Abu Dhabi - Yas Island, Anantara Eastern Mangroves and the Yas Plaza cluster of hotels. While the new CEO was tight-lipped on his exact vision, he said this year will be spent "laying the foundation" and next year will be about growth.

Having worked in hospitality for almost 40 years, Assmann said his move from cluster GM with Accor to CEO with Aldar Hotels might look "slightly misleading" at first. Previous operational positions for Assmann have include GM for the Meydan Hotel and GM for Jumeirah Creekside Hotel, as well as GM of Sofitel Dubai Downtown. But his experience has not been solely in operations. From 2015 to 2017 he worked with Dubai Parks and Resorts, first as VP of hospitality and retail and then as SVP of hospitality, events, retail and dining.
