Deivid Paiva has been appointed as Executive Chef at W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island

Deivid Paiva has flown in from Ritz-Carlton Tianjin in China to work as executive chef.

Paiva brings more than 15 years of culinary experience to the UAE capital and will now lead a team of 118 people. He will spearhead menu curation, concept development, staff training and the day-to-day management of the division.

In his new role, Paiva wants to "create a culinary experience that is unrivalled in the industry."

The chef began his career in five-star hotels in his native Portugal, going on to work in Dublin's Chapter One restaurant. He has worked in Abu Dhabi before, as junior sous chef at Hilton Abu Dhabi in 2012, later joining Jumeirah at Etihad Towers (now Conrad Abu Dhabi) as sous chef.

He joined Shangri-La as chef de cuisine in Doha in 2014. Since then he's travelled the world, taking in roles in Beijing, Dubai and Bangkok.
