Matt Cooper has been appointed as Cluster General Manager at Staybridge Suites Dubai Financial Centre and the Staybridge Suites Dubai Internet City
After almost two decades with Marriott, Matt Cooper is moving to a different operator. The Dubai hotelier begins the most senior role of his career, joining IHG to become a cluster general manager.
He will now oversee Staybridge Suites Dubai Financial Centre and the Staybridge Suites Dubai Internet City, IHG's two long-stay hotel options in the city.
Cooper joined the US hotel giant in 2005 in the UK, starting as an account executive. Staying within the sales world, he moved up to account manager and later sales manager of Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel and Country Club. From there, he quickly became a sales director, working at Northampton Marriott Hotel.
From 2010 to 2012 he was a senior sales manager within JW Marriott Grosvenor House London, one of the group's most coveted properties. Stepping out of the UK for the first time, he became director of catering sales at JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai for two years before returning to Forest of Arden Marriott again as DOSM. He returned to hospitality in 2016, working at the Marriott Hotel Al Forsan as director of sales. Before joining the Sheraton property, he served as multi-property director of sales at The Westin and W Dubai, Al Habtoor City; later joined Marriott Resort Palm Jumeirah as DOSM.
Since 2021, he was with Sheraton Grand Hotel, Dubai, most recently as hotel manager.
